PERTH “MUMPRENEUR” WINS MAJOR GRANT

Northbridge mother and start up entrepreneur, Meg Burrage has seen off a strong field to become the 2016 Western Australian recipient of Beyond Bank Australia’s Community Entrepreneur Programme.

The $20,000 grant will secure the future or Ms Burrage’s BubDesk business which gets parents back into the workplace by providing onsite crèche facilities for infants as young as three months.

“I knew there were a lot of new parents out there who were keen to get back to work but didn’t want to leave their babies or toddlers with someone else,” said Ms Burrage.

“BubDesk provides a co-working space in Northbridge spread across two floors with a fully serviced crèche so that mums and dads aren’t too far away from their children, but far enough to concentrate and get some work done.

“Small business owners and freelancers were so quick to tap into the idea and we quickly had thirty regular people using our space.

“Now we are actively targeting the corporate sector which also has a strong demand for this sort of service.”

The BubDesk office area has wifi, meeting rooms, areas to invite clients, while on the other floor parents can visit their babies, feed them and comfort them.

“Having a corporate background in logistics really helped as there was so much to coordinate but it has gone really well and we are now planning to open in Perth’s CBD to cater for the bigger companies who need support nearby.”

Beyond Bank says identifying innovative ideas like BubDesk is what the Community Entrepreneur Progamme is all about.

“We are continually amazed and delighted at the entrepreneurial spirit that is bubbling away in the community,” said Peter Rutter, the Bank’s General Manger, Community Development.

“BubDesk is a fantastic example of how a simple idea can tap into a real need and we can’t wait to follow Meg’s progress as she grows and expands her business into the corporate world.”

“It was nice to hear that someone like Beyond Bank really believed in our vision,” said Ms Burrage.

“It really shows the support that is out there for entrepreneurs.”
