Australian organisations must prepare their IT infrastructure for the future, says IDC

Announcement posted by IDC 28 Sep 2004

IDC finds that global IT spending continues to increase, with most of the new spending directed to areas that have been under-funded in the last few years, and IT infrastructure is a leading example of this trend. In the Asia/Pacific (including Japan) market, IT spending hit US$174.6 billion in 2003 and is expected to grow by 5.5% in constant dollar terms to US$184.1 billion in 2004. Worldwide IT spending increased 5% in 2004 to $961.9 billion, and is expected to increase a further 6.25% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) between 2004-2008.
IDC's InfrastructureVision "Getting Value from Your IT Infrastructure" Event in Sydney on Thursday 30th September 2004 at Star City, will discuss how organisations should prepare their computing infrastructures for the challenges they will face over the next few years and how they can build a dynamic IT infrastructure.
IT infrastructure is the very foundation of the modern business. It is no longer a luxury or something "nice to have." However, there are still many tales of IT projects going wrong, and this continues to cost companies millions of dollars and months of precious time.
"Todays CIOs need to understand not only how each piece of equipment works, but also how it all works together - reliably, robustly, and affordably. Every operation, transaction, or computation is essential to business success," said Avneesh Saxena, Infrastructure Vice President for IDC Asia/Pacific.
"Given the sheer volume of data that will need to be stored and managed over the remainder of this decade, unless organisations plan now and start to implement a consistent and robust IT architecture they are likely to be overwhelmed with complexity and cost," said Graham Penn, IDC Director of Storage Research in Asia Pacific.
"The challenge for many IT Executives is to establish priorities that will meet the organisation's long term need and be sufficiently flexible to adapt to the ever-changing business environment," added Mr Penn.
IDC's InfrastructureVision "Getting Value from Your IT Infrastructure" Event in Sydney on Thursday 30th September will include case study presentations and expert advice from HP, CA, Citrix, APC and IDC and it will help CIOs in understanding how to build and effective infrastructure and how they can reduce costs and improve business efficiency.
