Home Extensions Becoming More Popular with Perth Homeowners

Announcement posted by Next Level Extensions 23 Dec 2016

More and more homeowners are turning to home extensions to avoid dodgy Perth housing market.
Perth, WA, December 23, 2016 - The recent Pain and Gain Report by CoreLogic had news for Perth homeowners and it wasn’t the kind most of them were looking for. The Pain and Gain report covered real estate sales prices across Australia and revealed who made money and who lost money when selling their homes during the June quarter.

According to the report, 20.1% of those who sold homes in the Perth metro area lost money by selling them for less money than the original buying price. 17.9% of houses that were sold were sold for a loss, while 30.2% of units sold in Perth were sold for a loss. In the Perth CBD, 50.2% of homes that were sold were sold for a loss.

The losses were the highest ever recorded for units since numbers were first recorded in 1994, while the losses for houses were the highest since September, 1996.

Are Home Extensions Saving the Day for Homeowners Who Need More Room?

Craig Johns is the Director of Next Level Extensions. Next Level Extensions provide home extensions, second storey additions and home renovations to homeowners in the Perth area. According to Mr Johns:

“A lot of Perth homeowners just don’t want to risk selling their current homes and trying to buy new homes in such a risky market. While it sounds great to move up to a larger house at a bargain price, it also means the homeowner has to sell his own home at a bargain price. In addition, homes are on the market longer because nobody wants to sell for a loss.”

Mr Johns continued: “Luckily, there is a great solution for homeowners looking for more space: a home extension. Home extensions are popular in Perth and across Australia right now because they are the most hassle-free and risk-free way to find your dream home. If you are looking for your dream home, there is no guarantee you are going to find it. Adding on to your current home, whether building out with a home extension or building up with a second storey addition, puts the homeowner in control of his or her own destiny.”

The process of “moving up” into a better home can be arduous. The homeowner has to sell his own home while looking for another home. In the current market, the numbers don’t always match up well, nor do the projected times the homes stay on the market. Even if the numbers work, there is still the hassle of packing up one’s belongings and moving them.

The process of moving is difficult on the entire family, but especially on children, who have to leave their lifelong friends to move to a neighbourhood where they don’t know anybody. They often have to change schools. In addition, all accounts such as power, water, cable and even magazine subscriptions have to be changed over from the old home to the new home.

Mr Johns concludes: “More homeowners are deciding they would rather build home extensions than risk the dodgy Perth housing market. And they are all thankful afterward.”
