Candle Omegamon XE for Websphere Application Server enhances IBM e-Business environments

Announcement posted by Candle Corporation 07 Nov 2001

Offers First Total Life-Cycle Build, Run, Manage Support
Candle Corporation, the systems management and business integration company, today announced OMEGAMON XE for WebSphere Application Server, a powerful tool for optimising the performance and availability of IBM Corp.'s market-leading e-business infrastructure building block.

OMEGAMON XE for WebSphere Application Server targets the requirements of technical managers testing applications before implementation and in deployment, as well as the needs of business managers focused on analysing performance to assess service-level management and return on investment. The solution provides critical new WebSphere management functionality, enabling Candle to deliver the first end-to-end integrated systems management capabilities for the entire IBM-centric e-business organisation.

"Candle has been a trusted IBM Business Partner in industrial-strength computing for more than two decades and for MQSeries management since we first released MQSeries," said Bill Reedy, vice president, Business Development, IBM Software. "By enabling OMEGAMON XE for IBM WebSphere Application Server, Candle is helping businesses build sophisticated e-business management solutions."

OMEGAMON XE for WebSphere monitors performance and availability for the WebSphere Application Server and its Java-based technologies. Additionally, it monitors the performance characteristics of specific servlets, Java Server Pages (JSPs) and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs) - accelerating time to resolution and providing a central point of control for intuitive management.

"Candle is the market leader in the MQ management market, with 68-percent market share in 2000 and 70-percent market share in the first half of 2001," said Susan Eustis, senior analyst, WinterGreen Research Inc. "Candle has achieved dominance in the MQ management space by pursuing a high level of excellence in the area of monitoring WebSphere."

Delivered hard on the heels of Candle's recent announcement of its new OMEGAMON XE and OMEGAMON DE systems management solution suite, OMEGAMON XE for WebSphere Application Server bolts neatly into the total solution approach, empowering organisations to manage their end-to-end e-business infrastructures from back end to the Web front end and everything in between, from a single pane of glass. The solution is already being implemented by organisations looking to optimise WebSphere.

Leveraging Candle's technology for collecting accurate performance metrics, OMEGAMON XE for WebSphere Application Server offers point-and-click Graphical User Interface (GUI) functionality, enterprise-level visibility and management capabilities, custom workspace definition and tailored customer views, anywhere Web portal access and flexibility, historical reporting and analysis, along with easy installation.

IBM's WebSphere Application Server is the foundation of IBM's industry-leading e-business suite. It is the integration point outward toward the front end (Web sites) and inward to the back end (operating systems, databases, MQSeries, OS/390). The WebSphere Application Server, along with MQSeries, provides the core functions of handling transactions and extending back-end applications and data to the Web.

OMEGAMON XE for WebSphere Application Server is the cornerstone of Candle's WebSphere solution suite. The e-business-critical management systems suite offers tools to support the total "build, run, manage" e-business life cycle. Key components include:
* OMEGAMON XE for WebSphere Application Server

* eBA*ServiceMonitor, eBusiness Assurance Network, CandleNet ETEWatch - Software and service for monitoring and managing the actual response-time metrics for Web sites and e-business applications

"Our goal is to deliver solutions for the progressive e-business applications that are poised for explosive growth as the Fortune 500 continues to invest in transforming their core business to e-operating practices. With this announcement, we are offering a total life-cycle 'build, run, and manage' approach for organisations embracing IBM's e-business strategy."
