Australia Day award for socially responsible cafe

The Lilley Australia Day Awards were established to acknowledge the invaluable contributions made by volunteers to the local community. In addition to the volunteer awards, the Ted Tremayne Award is awarded to non-profit organisations to recognise the important contribution made by the organisation to its own local community.

The Monte Lupo Gallery Café is a Multicap initiative offering employment to people with disability, providing training and opening up a world of opportunities. People with disability are employed as baristas, chefs and in customer service roles.

Multicap CEO Joanne Jessop said; “We are honoured to receive the Ted Tremayne Award this Australia Day. At Multicap, we are committed to inclusion and to support this, we have opened a number of community cafes and hubs to provide spaces for members of the local community to gather, engage with one another and enjoy inclusive community activities. Our spaces welcome all members of the local community, not just people with disability.

“Multicap’s range of social enterprises provide employment and training opportunities to around 100 people with disability. We are committed to investing and expanding in local communities across Queensland and Northern NSW to enhance the quality of life of people with disability and their families.”

The Monte Lupo Gallery Café in Banyo is serving great coffee and delicious meals from 8.00am until 4.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am until 12.00pm on Saturday.
