NetBotz closes the gap on security services

Announcement posted by NetBotz Inc. 08 Apr 2005

The last mile gap in security services in Australia has been closed, with the arrival of NetBotz IP-based remote monitoring. Introduced today in Sydney, NetBotz is a self-contained plug-n-play package that closes the gap between traditional physical security and IT security by monitoring two critical data points the visual and environmental. The technology has already been deployed in Australia in customer sites including Australia Post, Charles Sturt University and LaTrobe University.
According to Gary Franza. Vice President of Worldwide Sales for NetBotz, recent research has shown that up to 30 percent of a companys mission critical infrastructure exists in environmental and physical conditions that were not properly prepared for technology use which means it is inevitable that some physical or environmental condition will cause the network to go down.
Companies should think about security outside the network, beyond the traditional digital security perimeter, to incorporate monitoring the physical environment. A complete threat management system must consider the physical devices that store and use the data as well.
By implementing a holistic or converged approach to security and protecting against logical and environmental dangers, organizations can increase their network availability while reducing organizational risk, said Mr Franza.
Through active monitoring, early detection and instant alerting, NetBotz protects critical assets from hostile environmental harm such as extreme temperatures and humidity, human error, careless and malicious tampering and sabotage and virtually all other threats, from power spikes to radioactive and chemical materials.
NetBotz uses the IP network as a unifying backbone to transport physical and environmental threat incident information captured by network-attached sensors. The sensors actively monitor a location and detect any disturbances, incidents or incipient conditions in the environment. The NetBotz becomes the remote eyes and ears for network administrators, remotely pinpointing the cause of network issues without the need to deploy local technicians to the site and it can instantly give appropriate personnel the information they need to avoid disaster, which would typically culminate in expensive downtime.
The NetBotz solution consists of a base station appliance with integrated environmental sensors, a colour camera and software which assesses the severity of threats and provides notification of events. It may also include add-on sensors, add-on central management software and an extended warranty. It integrates with most major network monitoring systems, including HP OpenView and Tivoli. Its robust monitoring console makes it suitable for enterprise environments yet easy enough for small to medium companies.
Pricing and Availability
The average NetBotz installation can range from $3,000 to $100,000 depending on the size of the organisation and the scope of monitoring requirements. NetBotz product is available now in Australia through Firewall Systems.
