Advanced, comprehensive solutions ensure high levels of reliability while reducing costs of IT operations
Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced four new enhanced Unicenter network management solutions that enable customers to manage enterprise network environments from the wireless LAN to the data centre, and deliver IT as a service - ensuring optimum reliability while significantly reducing operational costs.
The CA solutions - Unicenter NSM Wireless Network Management Option 3.0, Unicenter NSM Network Performance Option 3.5, Unicenter Advanced Network Operations 3.5 and Unicenter NetMaster Network Management for TCP/IP 7.0 - leverage extensions to CA Common Services, providing service-oriented architecture and self-management capabilities which enables organisations to deliver an efficient and responsive on-demand computing environment.
Effective, integrated end-to-end management of enterprise environments has become particularly important as organisations pursue the benefits of on-demand computing. On-demand computing requires enterprise resources to be managed consistently so that they can be flexibly and dynamically allocated to address changing business demands.
"High performance and outstanding network reliability and flexibility are essential for serving customers, accelerating business processes and quickly responding to change," said David Hochhauser, CA's vice president of Unicenter brand management. "This latest release of Unicenter innovations demonstrates our commitment to provide the tools our customers need to fulfil these critical on-demand networking requirements as inexpensively and easily as possible."
Unicenter NSM Wireless Network Management Option 3.0 is a secure and highly integrated solution for the proactive management of wireless LAN (WLAN) computing infrastructures. It manages multi-vendor WLAN environments with comprehensive real-time performance monitoring, troubleshooting tools, and historical trending functions from a central console or handheld device. As part of the Unicenter family, it als ensures that WLANs can be managed consistently with the wired network.
Unicenter NSM Network Performance Option 3.5 ensures optimised service levels by providing real-time and historical network performance information through a secure, Web interface. New reporting and portal features make Unicenter NSM NPO extremely easy to use and deploy.
Unicenter Advanced Network Operations 3.5 is a comprehensive solution for proactively managing and diagnosing heterogeneous networks. Enhancements include greater scalability for Frame Relay and ATM environments, and simplified alarm management for network devices. The new version provides complete coverage of current and legacy LAN/WAN technologies across multiple protocols.

Unicenter NetMaster Network Management for TCP/IP 7.0, a comprehensive management solution for mainframe-connected TCP/IP and SNA networks, provides Web browser access to real-time management and historical reporting. Easy-to-use Web interfaces help simplify problem diagnosis and performance management.
"Profiting from the significant business value offered by wireless networking required an effective means of managing it," said Kerry McCutchen, Lead Technologist, EDS' Continental Enterprise Solution Centre. "CA's Unicenter provided us with critical network management features - allowing EDS to manage wired and wireless infrastructure in one integrated view that enhanced our ability to meet the needs of our business."
Through integration with the Unicenter Management Portal, the new solutions enable customers to create secure, personalised and role-based business and technical views of their network infrastructure. This provides an integrated picture of the entire network, including alerts and problem reports.
"CA's Unicenter line delivers the breadth and depth of functionality required to manage today's complex and diverse networks - especially in the context of networks as conduits for application and other services," said Dennis Drogseth, vice president, Enterprise Management Associates. "The range of coverage that the Unicenter line offers makes it particularly appealing to organisations with network environments that are both highly heterogeneous and highly critical to their business operations."
