Can Google Rank a Single Page for Lots of More Keywords ( A Study by Ahrefs )

Nemco shared their view on a study conducted by Aherfs,”how many other keywords can rank for one page”.  
 
Ahrefs has revealed in a study that how many keywords exactly will an average page rank for. They clearly showed that the number one ranking page will also rank in the top 10 results for lots of other relevant keyword phrases.  
 
Why the most SEOs always preferred to optimize every single page for its own single keyword if different keyword phrases can also be promoted on a single page?
 
They mentioned it clearly that the average and median numbers of keywords appear in the top 20 search result also rank for in top 10 search query. Also, they showed that the average page one ranking will also rank for over a thousand relevant keywords.
 
Ahrefs also added three groups of keywords separately in their study where the all keywords in their sample were included along with those over a thousand search volume per months as well as those over ten thousand searched per month.
 
They break down the high volume keywords as the ranking for two to three keywords with more than a thousand searches per month which are common whereas ranking for more than ten thousand keywords with a single page is quite difficult. 
 
They also highlighted the question i.e. how many high-volume keywords can you "also rank for". "It's not at all surprising about ranking lots of long-tail keywords for a  single page, but how many of them can a single page rank for", they added.  
 
They simply took all the pages from a list of sample keywords that ranked on the number one position for a ten thousand keyword and checked the other ten thousand keywords these pages also ranked for. Then, replicated the similar experiment for other pages ranked number one for one thousand keywords.
 
They found the surprising result as the maximum URLs have ranked number one for a single high volume keyword. They emphasize on choosing the right topic to make your page rank for more keywords. The search result would solely depend upon the search topics as some have a huge search demand and have lots of search queries whereas some aren't popular enough to offer you a wide variety of keyword searches.
