Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Far South Coast primary school students will learn crucial financial literacy skills during June thanks to Horizon Credit Union and The National Theatre for Children (NTC). For the third year running, the organisations have partnered to deliver Showdown at Two Bob Billabong to schools across the regions at no cost to the schools. The tour begins on Monday 5th June and will visit schools in Albion Park, Thirroul, Nowra, Bomaderry, Bermagui and Bega.

“We’re thrilled to be in a position to give back to the community by sponsoring these educational programs for children’s financial literacy. One of the things that set us apart from other financial institutions is that we exist for the benefit of our members. Our main aim is to help them manage their money better. Establishing good savings habits at a young age is a priceless skill that can be carried through to adulthood” said Horizon CEO Jon Stanfield.

NTC creates and produces programs that are effective, educational, and entertaining. Showdown at Two Bob Billabong uses two professional actors who play a variety of characters, resulting in a fast-paced, highly comedic experience. Participating schools also gain access to print and digital activities to reinforce the following educational points:

·         What is money

·         The uses of money

·         Why we should save money

·         How we can save money

“If your goal is to share information with kids that you want them to remember for a lifetime, live theatre is the ideal format,” says NTC Managing Director, Tobias Benn. “The teaching points are packaged in fun. The story moves quickly to keep kids excited, and it’s that excitement that makes them so ready to absorb what they’re hearing and inspires them to take positive action on their financial future.”

Over the three year program, Horizon Credit Union will have reached 30 schools and educated over 10,000 students across the NSW South Coast.
