Major international fashion hairstylist to hit Sydney for collaboration with top Aussie industry peers

Internationally lauded fashion hairstylist, Eugene Souleiman, regularly works alongside designers like Dolce&Gabbana, Moschino, Dries van Noten, Céline, Chanel, Chloé, Louis Vuitton, Yohji Yamamoto, and Stella McCartney. He has collaborated with photographers such as Craig McDean, Steven Meisel and Paolo Roversi; and his work has graced the pages of Vogue, i-D magazine, W, and Harper’s Bazaar.

A regular jetsetter to work on the runways of fashion weeks in London, New York, Paris and Milan; in June Eugene will travel to Sydney for a creative masterclass at Hair Expo Australia. In his BE Creative masterclass, Eugene will share insights into his exclusive world of hair for fashion and the show, in partnership with Mizutani Scissors, is shaping up to be a spectacular production, with Eugene supported by team of some of the best hairstylists and creative names in Australian fashion.

The BE Creative Masterclass at Hair Expo Australia supported by #TeamEugene, will include:

·         Frank Apostolopoulos, current Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year, who will host the show.

·         Renya Xydis from Valonz Haircutters salon. Renya is widely considered one of Australia’s top editorial stylists and is constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity, which has seen her work for more than three decades with some of world’s leading publications, from Vanity Fair to Vogue.

·         Travis Balcke will act as the production director for Eugene during the masterclass. Travis is a prolific Australian editorial stylist who has worked with celebrities like Bjork, Lady Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow, Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett and Julianne Moore, among others.

·         #TeamEugene2017 will also include renowned stylists Keiren Street, Jayne Wild and Pete Lennon; as well as Alfie Sackett and Jaimie Tanner, who will collaborate to bring to life the signature looks that Eugene has selected from his favourite shows over the past decade.

·         Renowned fashion photographer, Georges Antoni will lend his creative vision to the show. Georges’ portfolio includes celebrities like Rihanna, Miranda Kerr, and Naomi Campbell.

·         In addition to three looks on centre stage created by Eugene, 12 models will complete the extraordinary runway carried out by Australian editorial stylist, Melissa Nixon. Melissa’s runway vision will reflect Eugene’s creative inspiration from the early punk rock movement.

·         Widely considered one of Australia’s most successful makeup artists, Rae Morris will be on hand to complete the makeup looks for each model. Rae’s clients include Kelly Rowland, Cyndi Lauper and Pink.

The show is set to be an immersive multimedia experience, with cameras capturing all the fun and action both onstage and backstage, and projecting the live footage back to large screens on the Centre Stage throughout the show. This level of interaction will provide an intimate and valuable insight into what hairdressers can expect when they finally have their moment to lead or assist on a major fashion show or editorial shoot. As Frank says, “it will be epic”.

The world of backstage fashion, editorial shoots and runway shows is a great career achievement for any stylist. Fast, powerful, dynamic and full of high energy, stylists are challenged in every way to bring the best on the day and to achieve the look that is going to set the benchmark for the season and hopefully for their career. For so many aspiring and talented hairdressers, the chance of stardom at Milan, Paris, London and New York fashion weeks is a career dream, and an ambitious goal. Eugene’s show at Hair Expo will bring London, New York, Paris and Milan to their doorstep, where he will share all these moments with the audience in the education seminar of a lifetime. On centre stage, Eugene will entertain and educate while he takes them on a powerful journey by sharing just what they need to take their hairdressing skills to new career heights.

Eugene Souleiman: the fashion world’s premier hairstylist

Eugene Souleiman is one of the most influential hairstylists today, a true visionary who inspires and sets the trends that other stylists follow. Eugene’s sense of humour and unique way of looking at hair permeates every avant-garde style he creates. He thrives to push boundaries, taking risks with both colour and length, and this is most prevalent in his hair sculptures. His endless stream of ideas and constant experimentation means he is continuously evolving and creating. “People should have fun with hair,” says Eugene, “It grows and changes all the time. And it’s only hair, really.”

His career began in 1982, when by chance, a job placement centre led him to become an apprentice to a hairdresser. There was no turning back; Eugene had found his niche. He worked closely with Trevor Sorbie for nearly 10 years, learning the “Sassoon way”, before branching out to create cutting-edge trends in his own inimitable style. Eugene’s career is growing from strength to strength – having held prestigious creative director roles with the biggest brands in the world, Eugene is now the global creative director for Wella Professional.

Eugene’s unique talent for interpreting designers’ ideas into a concrete vision that complements the clothes lends him to be in constant demand. He has worked on countless fashion shows for designers such as Dolce&Gabbana, Moschino, Alberta Ferretti, Dries van Noten, Céline, Chanel, Chloé, Ann Demeulemeester, Louis Vuitton, Sonia Rykiel, Narciso Rodriguez, Ralph Lauren, Yohji Yamamoto, Givenchy, Kenzo, Lanvin, Issey Miyake, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Valentino, Hermès, and Hussein Chalayan.

He is a regular contributor to the most influential of fashion publications including: Italian Vogue, British Vogue, French Vogue, US Vogue, Self Service, i-D magazine, W, Harper’s Bazaar, Another Magazine, Dazed and Confused and the New York Times.

The list of photographers Eugene has collaborated with reads like a who’s who of photography: Craig McDean, Steven Meisel, Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, Paolo Roversi, Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, Sean Ellis, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Peter Lindbergh, Satoshi, Fabien Baron, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Mario Testino, Richard Burbridge, Richard Bush and Solve Sundsbo; whom he has worked with on numerous advertising campaigns for fashion labels like Givenchy, Fendi, Alberta Ferretti, Guerlain, Jil Sander, Moschino, Lanvin, Hermès, Yohji Yamamoto, Calvin Klein, Versus, Narciso Rodriguez, Balenciaga, Donna Karan, and Emanuel Ungaro.

Eugene collaborated with Jake & Dinos Chapman on an art exhibition called ‘The Art of Chess’, where he individually styled the hair of each chess figure. In addition, Eugene headed the styling for the Fashion Rocks Charity event, benefiting The Prince’s Trust. He oversaw 80 assistants presenting on fashion designers like Alexander McQueen, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Prada, Dolce&Gabbana, Gucci, YSL and many others. Eugene is currently based in London and works extensively between New York, London, Milan and Paris.

Eugene Souleiman’s BE Creative Masterclass at Hair Expo Australia is powered by Mizutani Australia, Wella Professional, ghd Hair, Balmain Hair Couture and YS Park Professional; and will take place on Sunday 11 June at the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC) in Darling Harbour.
