Background:
Your Shot presented by Alcatel, is an Australian DJ competition (in its 8th year) which anyone can enter, with or without experience, the only requirement is a passion for music.This year, saw 10,000 young Aussies register. 360 were selected across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne for a 6-week intensive training course from some of the industry’s best at The Training Academy.
This weekend,120 Brisbane contestants will battle it out for 2017 bragging rights and the opportunity to experience and perform at a leading global music festival, alongside world famous DJs.
Karime Baylis is one of the 120 contestants to perform this weekend. Karime puts his heart and soul into his artform while managing Cerebral Palsy and severe deafness. When he initially discovered his passion for music at age 15, it was an escape from bullying at school during his lunch hour. He really started to action his passion when his mother saved up to purchase a Pioneer DJ deck. Months later, this equipment was stolen from his home, at which point his community and Pioneer stepped up to pool together a staggering $6,800 and replace the stolen decks. Now 19, Karime will be hitting the decks for the Your Shot title! He says of his Your Shot experience:

It is mind blowing how many people Your Shot brings together who share such a deep passion for EDM and all the opportunities to be able to network, ask advice, pick their brains & ask questions you may not normally get to ask, really is amazing!”
NYC producer The Party Thieves (a.k.a Jared Mc Farlin) renowned for his hard-hitting EDM club selections, and Your Shot 2010 Alum and DJ royalty Tigerlily and will be headlining the two-day battle.
Tigerlily said: “Your Shot single handily changed my life and launched me into the world of DJing. There is no chance I would be where I am today without it. I love to return to Your Shot each year and reminisce about my first set – it was so much fun!”
Your Shot presented by Alcatel is a one-of-a-kind local DJ competition that provides a unique opportunity for Aussies with little or no DJ experience to transform their passion for music into a career. Taking the east coast by storm, 2017 will see 800 contestants trained by some of Australia’s best DJ talent over six weeks at The Academy and then perform in the hopes of taking home the title of Your Shot 2017 winner.
“Your Shot isn’t about the end goal, it is about the beginning, helping aspiring DJs take the first steps to follow their passion for music. I want them to look up at their favourite DJ and think it’s an achievable goal, not just a dream”, said Your Shot Director, Steve Pillemer.
