Call for 50 volunteers for Parrtjima 2017: 22nd September - 1 October 2017

The Northern Territory Government is calling for volunteers to help bring to life the second annual Parrtjima – A Festival in Light in Alice Springs from Friday, 22 September to Sunday, 1 October 2017.

Curated by First Nations creative director, writer and producer, Rhoda Roberts OA, Parrtjima is a spectacular free event that celebrates the magnificent Aboriginal art of Central Australia.

More than 50 volunteers are required to assist in running the free public event through a variety of roles, including guest services, information and helping with installations.

Volunteers will receive training prior to the event and be required to donate their time between 5.30pm and 11.30pm on a minimum of two evenings during the 10-day festival.

Andrew Hopper, General Manager of Northern Territory Major Events Company encourages Territorians to get involved, saying: “Volunteering at Parrtjima is a fun and rewarding experience and a great opportunity to learn more about the rich art and culture of Central Australia.

“The extraordinary support provided by our enthusiastic volunteers in 2016 enhanced the experience for almost 16,000 people who attended. We hope many volunteers will return for a second year and we look forward to welcoming additional volunteers to support our growing program of events.”

People interested in taking part are invited to register to attend one of two information sessions hosted by not-for-profit organisation, Volunteering NT on Wednesday, 16 August at 6:30pm – 7:30pm and Thursday, 17 August at 10:00am – 11:00am at Red Hot Arts Central Australia at 67 Bath Street,Alice Springs.

Volunteer at the inaugural Parrtjima – A Festival in Light, Chantelle Rothwell, said: “Volunteering at Parrtjima is brilliant experience and a great way to meet new people and learn new skills. It was so cool to be part of such an amazing event. I had a lot of fun and am excited to volunteer again this year.”
