Background:
 
Your Shot presented by Alcatel, is an Australian DJ competition (in its 8th year) which anyone can enter, with or without experience, the only requirement is a passion for music. This year, saw 10,000 young Aussies register. 360 were selected across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne for a 6-week intensive training course from some of the industry’s best at The Training Academy. 
 
On the weekend, 120 Melbourne contestants will battle it out for 2017 bragging rights and the opportunity to experience and perform at a leading global music festival, alongside world-famous DJs. 
 
Your Shot presented by Alcatel is a one-of-a-kind local DJ competition that provides a unique opportunity for Aussies with little or no DJ experience to transform their passion for music into a career. Taking the east coast by storm, 2017 will see 800 contestants trained by some of Australia’s best DJ talent over six weeks at The Academy and then perform in the hopes of taking home the title of Your Shot 2017 winner.
 
“Your Shot isn’t about the end goal, it is about the beginning, helping aspiring DJs take the first steps to follow their passion for music. I want them to look up at their favourite DJ and think it’s an achievable goal, not just a dream”, said Your Shot Director, Steve Pillemer.

Carmel McGregor, one of the 120 contestants to perform in the Melbourne Showcase. Carmel is seriously passionate about music and after hearing of friends who had previously competed in Your Shot she was determined to enter, despite living in Adelaide. Over the past 2-months, Carmel has made the 8-hour commute between Adelaide to Melbourne in order to attend the Your Shot meetings and training sessions. McGregor says the commute has definitely been worth it, “I’ve been meeting so many new people and absorbing so much information, and have enjoyed every single minute of it!”

Sippy is a Your Shot alum and now runs The Academy, the institute that trains some of Australia’s brightest DJ talent including the Your Shot contestants. As a result of her experience in the Your Shot competition, she says, “I love sharing my knowledge and I love being able to shape the next generation of DJs.”
