NetLeverage Announces MailBoxCop

Announcement posted by NetLeverage 26 Nov 2004

Australian networking solutions developer, NetLeverage, has announced the release of MailBoxCop, a complete email management and firewall solution aimed at small to medium enterprises and educational institutions.
On a per user basis, MailBoxCop is the most cost-effective solution on the market, leveraging the power and affordability of open source software to deliver a level of email management and security previously beyond the reach of small to medium sized organisations.
MailBoxCop is very simple to install, requiring just 5-10 minutes of reconfiguration and very little change to the existing network architecture. It works alongside MS Exchange, MS Outlook, Lotus, Novell and other email systems.
Email Management
MailBoxCop gives the organisation full control over email management, allowing it to decide the level of access each employee has, who can send or receive what to whom, and which sites to blacklist or whitelist, so it can enforce policies about email usage
In addition to content filtering incoming emails and checking against public domain blacklists, MailBoxCop can also apply similar filtering processes to outgoing messages and attachments to ensure all users comply with stated email policies, which helps protect the organisations intellectual property and reputation and, in the case of schools, their duty of care.
MailBoxCop also monitors and filters inappropriate content from web browsing, as well as filtering phrases, words, file and media types.
Emails can be backed up on a per user basis and the administrator can review detailed web activity reports on each user.
Firewall
MailBoxCop uses a sophisticated Universal Threat Management (UTM) security gateway with an all-inclusive layered approach to prevent viruses, worms, Trojans and hacker break-ins.
NetLeverage overcomes the inherent vulnerabilities in commercial operating systems and mail applications by placing the security gateway close to the network entry point rather than distributing security services throughout the network.
This not only simplifies email and network management, but also virtually eliminates the risks associated with worms, viruses and hacker attacks well before they can compromise the underlying operating system, network or individual PCs.
NetLeverage founder and CEO, Steve Hasani, said MailBoxCops modular UTM architecture enables new security features to be automatically downloaded immediately (hourly) when new threats are detected.
Our use of UTM gives MailBoxCop the ability to automatically update performance and security features simultaneously into every PC on the network, enabling network managers to quickly and easily deploy new security solutions as they need them, without manual intervention.
This represents an enormous saving in time and resources as well as the obvious benefits in terms of security. Were very proud of the level of functionality and useability weve been able to deliver for such a low price, he said.
According to IDC, demand for UTM appliances will grow rapidly over the next three years, with dedicated appliances accounting for 80 per cent of all security solutions by 2007.
What Customers Say
Initially developed for St Andrews Cathedral School (SACS) in Sydney and later adopted for Our Lady of Mercy College, MailBoxCop has now been packaged and released for commercial use.
St Andrews has been using the product since early 2004, taking advantage of its powerful firewall and anti-Spam capabilities to protect over 1000 staff and students.
The schools IT Manager, Ian Scott, said MailBoxCop has almost eliminated what had become a serious Spam problem, saving the school substantial money along the way.
Apart from the sheer volume of Spam that was clogging up the network, we needed to protect students from inappropriate material like pornography. MailBoxCop has reduced the level of Spam by well over 90 per cent while providing us with comprehensive defences against viruses, worms and external attacks.
Mr Scott said the NetLeverage solution was extremely affordable without compromising on any of the functionality normally associated with much higher priced products.
Added to that, MailBoxCop is much easier to operate and maintain than other security solutions, while retaining the flexibility to let us pick and choose the services we need. I definitely recommend it for other organisations looking for a total security and email management solution, he said.
