D-Link introduces high speed 802.11a wireless products to Australia and New Zealand

Announcement posted by D-Link Australia 05 Jun 2002

New range includes dual band 802.11a / b wireless access point
D-Link, a designer and manufacturer of wireless networking, connectivity and communications technologies, has announced its first products for the latest IEEE standard for wireless networking technology, 802.11a, in Australia and New Zealand.
In addition, D-Link has introduced the industry's first integrated dual mode access point that simultaneously serves both 802.11a wireless connectivity at 54 Mbps and 802.11b wireless connectivity at 11Mbps. As a dual radio 2.4GHz/5GHz wireless access point, the new D-Link Air Pro DWL-6000AP protects a company's investment in existing wireless networks.
"Our dual band wireless access point is ideal for future-proofing and upgrading wireless LANs," said Graeme Reardon, business development manager - telecommunications for D-Link Australia and New Zealand. "It creates a seamless point of integration at a much lower cost than other hardware options with dual mode capabilities."
D-Link's first 802.11a products to hit the local market will be the new D-LinkAir Pro series of wireless LAN equipment, which includes a PCMCIA Type-II wireless network adapter (DWL-A650), a PCI 2.2 network adapter (DWL-A520) and a wireless access point (DWL-5000AP).
Based on the Atheros AR500 chip set that complies with the IEEE 802.11a specification, the D-LinkAir Pro range offers data rates of up to 100 Mbps and operates in the 5.2Ghz frequency band, which is free of conflict with other wireless devices. New features include stronger security and support for eight non-overlapping channels to reduce interference in dense network environments.
"These new products deliver blazing fast wireless connections and are ideal for businesses with bandwidth-hungry wireless LAN applications," Reardon said.
The 802.11a products will start shipping in July 2002. D-Link has marketed a range of wireless networking equipment for 802.11b networks since late 2000. D-Link also recently added Bluetooth technology to its range, and plans to introduce 802.11g wireless products in late 2002.
