Charity Launch

 To celebrate charity status, Open Haven will officially launch on 14th October 2017, with the evening opened by MP, Di Farmer.

Open Haven is unlike any other provider in this field -  providing a safe and secure support group for women in crisis, particularly those dealing with domestic violence abuse. 

 “Our goal is to ensure the women (and families) are empowered to not only help themselves and become self-sufficient but are able to become strong enough to encourage others in similar situations.'' said Sabeel Burgess, CEO

  • One in three Australian women have experienced physical violence since the age of 15, and almost one in five have experienced sexual violence, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

  • In 2005, over 350,000 women experienced physical violence and over 125,000 women experienced sexual violence.

  • Domestic violence and sexual assault perpetrated against women costs the nation $13.6 billion each year. By 2021, the figure is likely to rise to $15.6 billion if extra steps are not taken.

 

Open Haven has to date helped 55 women and 44 children. We aim to increase this to 75 women next year. We want everyone woman, every child to feel safe. - '' Sabeel Burgess, CEO

There is provision of emotional and practical support, helping women to navigate, understand and access available services, providing advocacy and empowering women to make decisions. Open Haven journeys with the women throughout the whole process with the aim to break the domestic violence cycle for victims and their children.
