Top Matchmaker Reveals Real Reason Professional Women Remain Single

Study also reveals the biggest instant turn-off in dating

Brisbane, October 17, 2017 - Australia's favourite matchmaker Linda Prescott has come out to reveal the real reason many professional women remain single despite their career successes. Based on thousands of interactions with Ideal Introductions clients, Prescott says that the most common reason professional women stay single is that they forget to take their "professional hats off".

"The same hat does not work for all facets of your life,” says Prescott. "You are different being a mum than a CEO. You also need to be different in front of your partner."

According to Prescott, a lot of professional women tend to wear the professional hat off work. These power women have very high expectations on themselves. They are very in control of their lives, are incredibly organised. However, Prescott says, “Whilst it's fantastic that they can manage everything at work to perfection, some of these women put the same expectations outside of work and on men.

"The fact is, men are not women and therefore act and think differently. When the guys fall short, the ladies can get angry and frustrated. These are the things that we advise our clients about, both men and women, to try and help them understand each other,” said Prescott, Chief Matchmaker at Ideal Introductions where over 70% of clients get into lasting relationships.

Prescott also says that many do not want to talk about the role of the men and women in a relationship as it can be seen as putting people in certain boxes. However, based decades of matchmaking thousands of couples, Prescott believes that the men need to see the vulnerable side of women when dating.

“Nobody wants to say this but men need to feel like men. The ladies need to show that they can be flexible, easy going, and that dating them won’t be difficult,” said Prescott.

This statement is backed by a recent study conducted by Ideal Introductions where 24.37% of men said that they were not actively looking for a relationship because women were “hard work”. The biggest reason men are not dating (32%) is that they are time poor. The same study also revealed that the biggest instant turn-off (53.87%) is arrogance or bossiness and that only 3.28% of men believe women’s expectations are not too high.

But is there a specific type of man that would better suit a professional woman? "Someone who is successful in their career but is quietly confident. She doesn’t actually want to walk all over him but she knows she will if she can.

“He needs to be intelligent and happy to let her lead most of the time but absolutely can say no to her when needed,” said Prescott. These are the insights that Prescott and her team share with their clients. “We also have difficult, honest conversations with our clients that quite often they don’t want to hear but if they don’t listen, quite often they remain single,” added Prescott.

Prescott said that over two decades of business, one thing has remained constant; at their core, people are social creatures who crave love and companionship. But not just any love or companion, but the type you get with the right partner.

“We exist as a medium to help people find a partner that most compliments them; the people who engage our services are emotionally intelligent, realise the importance of a great relationship and are prepared to seek professional assistance to make it happen,” Linda says.
