Garden walks, sculpture, fungi, garden design discussion and raptors –

Announcement posted by Ascend Public Relations and Communications 25 Oct 2017

Grannes Open Garden has something for everyone!

With three successful Open Garden’s behind it, the Grannes Open Garden Day is becoming an iconic event in the Grampians region and the WAMA’s calendar.

The garden, developed by Barbara Reading in 2003 and expanded and enhanced by Andrew Davidson owned by Greg and Glenda Lewin, features native plants and landscaping, interspersed with sculptures. Located at 207 Pomonal Road Stawell, the garden and associated exhibitions will be open on Sunday October 29 from 11am to 4pm.

‘It is a great pleasure to open our garden to the public,’ owner Glenda Lewin said. ‘It is a special place and we are thrilled to be able to share it. Equally important to Greg and I, the proceeds from the day go to a project dear to our heart, the WAMA Project.’

As well as guided tours of the spectacular garden, there will be a range of art exhibitions.

‘Renowned sculptor Lucy McEachern will display her wildlife sculptures. She is recognised across the world for her bird sculptures, we are honoured that she can participate.

‘Bruce Fuhrer OAM, is an eminent Australian fungi expert. The exhibition will include a selection from the 3000 species in his photographic collection.

‘Guest speaker Diana Snape will speak on Australian garden design at 1pm. Diana is the author of Australian Native Gardens: putting visions into practice and The Australian Garden: designing with Australian plants. She has a wealth of knowledge and we are fortunate for the opportunity to hear from her.

‘Martin Scuffins, a wildlife artist with a special interest in raptors will give a birds of prey demonstration at 2pm. Most of us get to see these formidable birds in our skies, this is a rare opportunity to see them up close and personal with an expert in the field.

The guest speakers and exhibitors reflect WAMA’s vision to recognise the achievement and contribution of Australian and international wildlife artists. We are privileged to be a part of this, Glenda said.

The WAMA Project aims to celebrate the relationship between art, science and nature and is seeking government funding to establish a gallery with botanical gardens near Halls Gap. Information about the WAMA Project is available online at www.wama.net.au
