Live Theatre To Generate Flood of Water Conservation

Announcement posted by NTC 03 Nov 2017

Aqua League and the Drought Dilemma Tours Local Schools
From 13th – 17th November. The National Theatre for Children (NTC) together with Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC), will educate local primary students on the subject of water and pollution prevention with The Aqua League and the Drought Dilemma.

This educational program is provided to local schools at no cost and teaches students the science behind the many ways we use water, the ways water is wasted, as well as what students and their families can do to conserve water and prevent pollution.

GPC CEO Peter O’Sullivan says GPC is proud to support programs such as this through the organisation’s Community Investment Program. “This partnership allows GPC to share its environmental messaging and educate our youth about our valuable natural resources. The young people are our future and to ensure change and effective management of the environment in the future they must be informed of the issues and roles they can play in minimising impact.”

The comedy adventure follows characters such as The WaterCooler, fisherman Barry Mundy, and Thunderstorm as they learn to defeat super‐villain The Drought, who is wasting water throughout the city. NTC, the company that creates and produces the program, relies on decades of experience to ensure the information shared is effective, educational, and entertaining. The Aqua League and the Drought Dilemma uses two professional actors to play a variety of characters, resulting in a fast‐paced, highly comedic experience.

“Live theatre is a great medium for education,” says NTC Managing Director Tobias Benn. “The story moves quickly to keep kids excited, and it’s that excitement that makes them so ready to absorb the information. Their enthusiasm follows them home, where they share what they saw and learned at school that day.”

Participating schools receive workbooks for students, teacher guides, and digital learning materials, including interactive games and activities that reinforce the teaching points of the show.

The November tour includes visits to schools in Rockhampton, Gladstone, and Bundaberg.
