The last 18 months have been difficult for Michael following an incident that saw him miss competing in Rio for his 7th consecutive Olympic Games. Michael has since been acquitted of three firearms convictions and had a 10 year gun license ban overturned meaning his next goal is to compete in 2020 at the Tokyo Olympics.
However he needs to sell his 2000 Olympic Gold Medal to be able to financially survive, pay his extraordinary legal bills and support his family which includes his three young daughters Isabella 14, Angelica 11 and Rhianna 6.
MICHAEL DIAMOND'S 2000 SYDNEY OLYMPICS GOLD MEDAL
Born Goulburn, NSW in 1972, Michael became the first Australian to win an Olympic shooting event since 1900, with his Olympic Gold Medal for Trap shooting in Atlanta’s 1996 Games (149 out of 150 targets). He followed that with a back-to-back win in Sydney’s 2000 Olympic Games (147 out of 150 targets), only the second trap shooter to have done so. Michael also held the World Championship in both the trap and double trap in 2000, and held his final world record in trap between 2007 and 2008 where he won the trap event at the 2007 World Shotgun Championships. In 2012, in his sixth Olympic Games in London, he led the field at the end of the qualification period, with an Olympic record of 125/125, but ended up finishing fourth overall. He also finished fourth in 2008. With Commonwealth Golds as well he is in a class of his own.
