Manufacturer Black Lab Design listed as an AFR Fast Starter

Announcement posted by Black Lab Design 09 Nov 2017

Amidst all the FinTech and online retail start-ups a Fast growing manufacturing power house stands tall!

Black Lab Design is just four years old and already the fast growing manufacturing business has achieved so much , they have upgraded locations twice as they have outgrown their first two sites, expanded to Melbourne, become a trusted partner supplier to Woolworths, Westfield, Thales and many other big brand names.   The team of two has grown to 3 divisions with a headcount ranging from 18 to 30 depending on what projects are going on. Today they added a place in the AFR Fast Starters List at number 45

Their confidence in the abilities of themselves and their partners is incredibly exciting and heartening for the future of manufacturing in Australia.  Being included alongside household names that have started out as Fast 100 companies – including Atlassian, Booktopia, Boost Juice, Carman's Fine Foods, Cellarmasters, Grill'd, Herron Pharmaceuticals, Lonely Planet, RedBalloon, SEEK, WebJet and Worley Parsons is exciting and a real boost for the business.

The team at Black Lab are on a mission and it’s not just about them, they are passionate about and committed to building the profile of innovation and evolution across the manufacturing sector in Australia.   The words disruptive and innovative have potentially been over or ill-used by some, however, as a collective they are changing the face of the industry and creating the future of manufacturing for the next generation.

Featuring in the AFR Fast Starters list is a huge boost for us, the recognition is awesome for the team and we look forward to being included in the Fast 100 in future years as we keep expanding.  We’d like to thank all of our supporters, our clients, suppliers and our team who have made this amazing journey possible so far and we can’t wait to share what’s to come with them all” Daen Simmat CEO and co-founder

In just the last year, Black Lab Design have been engaged on multiple projects for large brand names including Westfield, Woolworths, Mills Displays, Phillips Lighting, Petbarn, Oroton, AGL Energy and many more.  But you won’t see their brand emblazoned anywhere in these locations.  It’s their clients who take the credit for the fittings that feature in the luxury buildings in the Barangaroo development and in every McDonalds owned restaurant kitchen in Australia the point of sale displays that are now installed in JB Hi-fi and Harvey Norman stores across Australia and New Zealand.   Their creations can be found farther afield too, a unique Marine transport case used by the Australian Defence Force and exports through clients including security palisade fencing and RFID asset management portals throughout Asia and beyond.

The strategy for the future is to continue to enhance their offerings into current and new markets through partnerships, acquisitions and their own product ventures.

Black Lab have just achieved one of their 2017 goals of creating an “under one roof” “Centre of Manufacturing Excellence Hub” on the Northern Beaches, moving into a new multiple function site in Frenchs Forest and look forward to hosting a Centre of Excellence open day in mid 2018  to showcase it.
