Christmas Styling Trends 2017

Announcement posted by 360PR 13 Nov 2017

As the festive season approaches, it’s time to get your home ready for the entertaining season and showcase some Christmas spirit. Christmas decorating should be fun and creative, and 2017 is all about producing your own unique style. Justine Wilson, Director and Principal Stylist at Vault Interiors, identifies the top trends for the ultimate home Christmas style.

Justine says, “Christmas is one of the busiest times for entertaining, and styling for this period can be fun, exciting and give your home a refresh ready for the new year. This season is all about trying something new, thinking outside the box when it comes to decorations. Ditch the traditional and opt instead for raw, organic materials, as well as simple, handmade decorations.”

Justine’s top styling trends include:
  1. Colours of Christmas: While traditional colours of gold, green and red will always be a default for Christmas, this year retailers are providing decorations in a huge colour range, a subtle way to spice things up. Decorations are taking inspiration from this year’s hot accent colours; think pastel pinks, metallic, charcoal and grey tones. If you want something richer, opt for burnt orange and magenta.
  2. DIY for Days: Swapping out traditional decorations, figurines and candy canes for more unique items on the tree is a quick way to update your style for 2017. Think paper streamers, pom poms and origami. Homemade crafts have been a focus for the year, so opting for personal, handmade decorations will be a huge trend come Christmas. They feel more personal and unique, a great way to get into the festive spirit!
  3. Simple Style: Clean lines and neutral tones of the Scandinavian trend have dominated interior magazines and retailers for the last year. Raw wood and branch style tree, adorned with simple fairy lights and natural decoration in white, oak, black or grey make for a clean, crisp finish. This neutral, earthy tree will be hugely popular this year.
  4. Keep it Real: Keeping in with the focus on raw, natural fibres, Christmas will be going back to nature. This means real trees, Australian native flowers being used for garlands, table centrepieces and wreaths instead of the usual plastic. They’ll be plenty of handmade treats, decorations and candles with local Christmas markets becoming more popular each year.
  5. The Great Outdoors: With the heat of the Australian outdoor climate it makes sense to utilise outdoor alfresco areas and decorate just as you would inside. Outdoor solar lights, paper and glitter garlands, and beautiful outdoor centrepieces. Small trees, or gathered braches with a few simple decorations for outdoor entertaining. Adding scented candles and twinkle accents will make the space a Christmas wonderland.
