Realtech Australia Takes Carinda International Live with SAP Business One

Announcement posted by REALTECH Australia 10 May 2005

Realtech Australia Pty Ltd, the now Australian-owned SAP Global Support and Technology Partner, has announced its successful implementation of SAP Business One for Carinda International. The benefits are already flowing for Carinda, especially in its foreign exchange dealings.
Headquartered in Sydney with offices in Melbourne and Hong Kong, Carinda International is a small privately-owned importer and distributor of electronic components and printed circuit boards. The company represents many leading product manufacturers from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong and also imports goods from the US and UK.
Carinda buys products in US dollars and sells in Australian dollars and its sales of a given importation are spread over an extended period. As a matter of course, the company adjusts its invoices to reflect foreign exchange movements. However, prior to implementing Business One, it had to track these movements and make adjustments manually.
The foreign exchange feature in Business One, as customised for Carinda by Realtech Australia, now handles this process automatically, saving a great deal of time and ensuring full recovery when rates move against importers.
Over time, the value of an adjustment can run to millions of dollars. The benefit of the new system is that whatever the movements and no matter how much time elapses, Carinda is assured of enjoying the margins it had planned for at the outset, David Brown, Managing Director of Carinda, explains.
Carinda began its search for a new system in mid 2004. Its initial list of suppliers and products ranged from very small locally produced accounting packages through to more sophisticated solutions with superior functionality, supported by international vendors.
After narrowing down the options to a shortlist of three suppliers, the company began a detailed evaluation, with its key selection criteria focused on quotes, handling of multiple currencies and inventory management.
The other key factor in the selection process was the reputation and professionalism of the supplier, its knowledge of the product and its ability to translate Carindas requirements into a working system.
We were very cautious in making the right choice, for we were not just looking for a solution, but more a business partner with whom we could build a strong ongoing relationship over the life of the product, Brown says.
SAP Business One met our key selection criteria and we also felt it could grow with our company better than the other products. Combined with this was Realtechs proven ability to deliver on promise.
Two Realtech Australia consultants implemented the new system well within a single month and Carinda achieved immediate improvements in productivity. According to Brown, as the staff at Carinda becomes more familiar with the system, they plan to investigate it in greater depth and implement more of the functionality now available to them.
