AIIA appoints board for 2017-18 year

Sydney, Australia – 15 November 2017 – The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), the nation’s peak industry body for the technology sector, today announced its national board for the 2017-18 year, following yesterday’s Annual General Meeting held in Sydney.

The AIIA board is composed of 16 directors, including 10 elected directors, five directors appointed by the Board, and the immediate past Chair. Directors are appointed for up to three years from the date of their election.

Fiona Anson, co-founder and director JobGetter, and Steve Worrall, managing director Microsoft Australia were newly elected to the board.

Martijn Blanken, group managing director and chief customer officer, Telstra, Mark Nicholls, managing director, Information Professionals, and Elizabeth Vega, director Informed Solutions, were re-elected to the board.

Stuart Althaus, chief executive officer, SME Gateway, Seelan Nayagam, managing director DXC Technology Australia and New Zealand, and Charles Lindop, principal KTM Capital have been appointed by the Board.
 
The board will continue to be chaired by John Paitaridis, managing director Optus Business.
 
Mr Paitaridis said: “I’m proud of what AIIA has achieved over the past year. We set ourselves a big vision and clear agenda, which has resulted in significant breakthrough achievements. We have delivered an important financial turnaround, laid out a solid and targeted policy agenda, and successfully engaged our community and the broader economy.
 
“Through our member organisations, AIIA represents over 125,000 technology professionals and when we speak as an industry it is a very powerful voice. As technology continues to become a key driver across our entire economy, AIIA is shifting into the next phase of our strategic plan to extend our relevance to other industry sectors, whilst we remain highly focussed on creating even greater value for our members and industry.”

Rob Fitzpatrick, chief executive officer of AIIA said, “Without question, 2017 has been a big year for AIIA. In addition to improving our financial position, we’ve hosted around 100 events on a broad range of topics, delivered 39 policy submissions, facilitated almost 70 forums between members and government representatives, authored two major thought leadership publications, conducted a national research poll, and helped influence and shape numerous State and Federal policies.

“The ICT sector, more than any other, is both going through transformational change and is driving change across society and the economy. I’m grateful for the time, commitment and advice provided by the board and it is an honour to work with these industry leaders as we help shape Australia’s digital and technology agenda, which in turn will help drive Australia’s social and economic prosperity.”

The election was conducted by Election Consulting Group and was open to all AIIA members.
