Brisbane Singer to Take World Stage

Announcement posted by PDPR Marketing and Creative 20 Nov 2017

Brisbane’s Ellen Reed set as firm favourite to take on Eurovision 2018

Ellen Reed is one of Australia’s most gifted singer/songwriters, best known to television audiences as superstar coach Jessie J’s powerhouse grand finalist on The Voice Australia Season Five.

Since the competition, Ellen has continued performing with an impressive resume of live appearances, including performances with Broadway composer Scott Alan, the Queensland Pops Orchestra, Oscar Theatre Company, the Commonwealth Games, the Goodwill Games, the Bach Festival in Oregon, Brisbane EKKA, the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols and countless charity dinners and events.

In addition to wowing The Voice Australia celebrity coaches Jessie J, Delta Goodrem, Ronan Keating and the Maddens, Ellen has also performed live for former US President Bill Clinton, Australian megastars The Veronicas, the Australian Olympic Swimming Team and of course the Queensland Firebirds Netball Team, for whom she is an ambassador.

Ellen now has her sights set further abroad, in her bid to represent Australia at Eurovision 2018 in Portugal. Indeed with backing from the Lord Mayor and Premier of Queensland, Ellen is well positioned and firmly set to take on the challenge.

“Ms Reed is a talented and engaging performer, whose incredible musical ability has garnered her a legion of fans. I have been fortunate to experience her talent as a performer and can personally attest she is a gifted singer and an impressive young woman”, says Annastacia Palaszczuk, Queensland Premier and Minister for the Arts.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has also thrown his support behind the singer, adding ‘Ms Reed has quickly become an active and independent rising star within Brisbane's vibrant and creative community… I am confident she will be an ideal ambassador for our wonderful country.”

If successful, Ellen will follow a stellar list of Australian performers, including Guy Sebastian (2015), Dami Im (2016) and Isaiah Firebrace (2017), not to mention Jessica Mauboy’s half-time performance at the 2014 competition.

“I have no doubt that her experience as a contestant and grand finalist on television program The Voice, will put her in good stead to represent Australia with pride. Queenslanders would all get behind Ellen's Eurovision bid and I warmly recommend her for consideration”, continues Ms Palaszczuk.

2018 will see The Eurovision Song Contest enter it’s 63rd edition and will take place for the first time in Lisbon, Portugal. The contest will consist of two semi-finals and a final scheduled to be held on 8, 10 and 12 May 2018.
