The perfect one-style-fits-all summer sandal launches in Sydney

Announcement posted by Underground Communications 22 Nov 2017

Move over Birkenstocks and Toms, here’s a one-style-fits-all sandal that is comfy, looks good, does good and here in time for summer.

The TD001 by Twodeck Brand is inspired by the standard issue sandal for the British Royal Navy 30 years ago, and for every pair sold, five books will be issued to the not-for-profit Room to Read Australia, focused on girls' education and children's literacy in Asia and Africa.

The sandals are available in black and natural leather for men, and blue, black, green, red, yellow and natural leather for women.

“I joined the British Royal Navy nearly 30 years ago and I still have the sandals I wore every day working on the submarines. We used the Royal Navy design to produce a hard wearing sandal perfect for the Australian summer ideal whether you are going to work, on a Sunday morning stroll with a coffee or catching up with friends,” says Mike Todd, Founder of Twodeck Brand.

Twodeck Brand began 1 July this year and has the ambitious goal of one million pairs of sandals sold and five million books delivered to Room to Read Australia in the next seven years.

“The sandal is available on our website and it’s great to see the feedback we are getting already. Our customers love comfort, love style and want a sandal that will last forever, and the TD001 delivers,” says Mike.

The TD001 retails at $149.95 a price that ensures each partner who are part of the production process a fair and equitable ability to ply their trade legally and ethically in their own country. From factory to consumer, price discrimination is carefully monitored.

“Partnering with Room to Read Australia mirrors our philosophy on reading whether it is escapism of the everyday or a resource to function day to day. Which is why we also introduced the Ship’s Library - the Twodeck Brand book club – whereby each month the Twodeck team select a book they will dedicate time within their work days to read.

“At the end of each month, we talk about the book we’ve read, what we learnt and what it meant. And so it’s not just us waffling on about the books we love... five customers per month will receive a copy of our Ship’s Library book with their TD001 order - because the best part about reading is sharing stories,” says Mike.

Mike has more than 20 years in the shoe industry running brand agency, Twodeck Agency, a Sydney based sales agency that launches and manages international distribution for lifestyle footwear brands across the Asia Pacific. As part of the launch of TD001, Mike learnt how to make the shoes himself in a boutique, eclectic shoe factory, on Paramatta Road called School of Footwear.

The sandals are made in Portugal and shipped to Australia. Following the launch in Australia, the sandals will be launched in the UK and the USA for their 2018 summer.
