Enterasys Networks and Q1 Labs Partner to Set New Standard for Network-Wide Security

Announcement posted by Enterasys Networks 22 Jun 2005

Enterasys Networks (NYSE: ETS), the Secure Networks Company, and Q1 Labs, a leading network security management company, today announced a partnership that will set a new standard for enterprise network security. The companies will jointly develop comprehensive new network security applicationsbased on their highly compatible flow-based technologiesto identify, target and stop internal or external threats, regardless of location or mode of access. These solutions will provide enterprise customers with industry-leading network availability, performance, and compliance with strict data privacy regulations, without requiring wholesale infrastructure replacement.
Enterasys and Q1 Labs respective strengths in signature-based and behavioral anomaly detection provide enterprises with a detailed view of the network, identify the origin of attacks, and deliver powerful solutions that isolate and eliminate threats before they disrupt business activities. The companies architecture-based solutions provide enterprise-wide protection, defending networks against damaging threats and replacing a patchwork of point products that cant deliver the broad and complete protection businesses require.
Enterasys Secure Networks solutions are uniquely able to address any threat because we have embedded unmatched security capabilities directly into the network infrastructure, said John Roese, CTO of Enterasys Networks. Q1 Labs QRadar is a leader in network anomaly detection and threat surveillance technology. Our combined capabilities will enable customers to stay ahead of emerging threats and protect their information assets from unauthorized access or destruction.
Jon Oltsik, senior analyst for information security with Enterprise Strategy Group, says threats to networks and the information they carry are increasingly sophisticated and damaging to business continuity. The combination of Enterasys Secure Networks solutions, with their signature-based threat detection capabilities, and Q1 Labs behavioral anomaly-based approach to network threats and illicit activity will provide enterprises with the high level of protection required to thwart the increasing number of internal and external threats to the network.
Enterasys Dynamic Intrusion Response solution has raised the bar for intrusion detection and prevention. Leveraging the award-winning Dragon Intrusion Defense System, it is the industrys first solution that tightly integrates intrusion detection with broader network management capabilities. By doing so, it enables network-wide visibility and highly granular control for unmatched context in threat detection and response. This minimizes the resource-intensive false positives and excessive downtime characteristic of narrowly focused IDS/IPS platforms and blunt force remediation methods.
Q1 Labs flagship product, QRadar integrates the functionality of network anomaly detection, application flow analysis, and event management into one architecture. It understands normal network and application usage, then flags and responds to emerging threats or illicit network activity. Enterasys will integrate QRadar into its products, including Dragon Intrusion Defense and Matrix switches and routers.
Threats are coming from across the enterprise, and the marriage of security and networking is critical for an effective enterprise-wide defense. said Shaun McConnon, Q1 Labs CEO. Enterasys Networks has pioneered that vision with its leading-edge family of Secure Networks products. Since its inception, Q1 Labs has shared that vision with our QRadar network security management product. This combination obviates the need for many point security products, creating a new industry standard that gives customers one holistic view of their networks from one console.

Some risks and uncertainties that may cause actual results to differ materially from these forward-looking statements include, but are not limited to: worldwide and regional economic uncertainty and recent political and social turmoil may continue to negatively affect our business and revenue; we have a history of losses in recent years and may not operate profitably in the future; our quarterly operating results may fluctuate, which could cause us to fail to meet quarterly operating targets and result in a decline in our stock price; we earn a substantial portion of our revenue for each quarter in the last month of each quarter, which reduces our ability to accurately forecast our quarterly results and increases the risk that we will be unable to achieve previously forecasted results; we continue to introduce new products, and if our customers delay product purchases or choose alternative solutions, or if sales of new products are not sufficient to offset declines in sales of older products, our revenue could decline, we may incur excess and obsolete inventory charges, and our financial condition could be harmed; we may be unable to upgrade our indirect distribution channels or otherwise enhance our selling capabilities, which may hinder our ability to grow our customer base and increase our revenue; we have experienced significant changes in senior management and our current management team has been together for only a limited time, which could limit our ability to achieve our objectives and effectively operate our business; there is intense competition in the market for enterprise network equipment, which could prevent us from increasing our revenue and achieving profitability; a portion of the enterprises we sell to rely in whole or in part on public funding and often face significant budgetary pressure, and if these customers must delay, reduce or forego purchasing from us, our revenues could be harmed; we depend upon a limited number of contract manufacturers for substantially all of our manufacturing requirements, and the loss of any of our primary contract manufacturers would impair our ability to meet the demands of our customers; and those additional risks and uncertainties discussed in our most recent filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including our quarterly report on Form 10-Q for the fiscal quarter ended April 2, 2005.
