DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT’S IN YOUR SUNSCREEN? 2018 IS THE YEAR TO FIND OUT!

MooGoo Skin Care Founder Calls on Therapeutic Goods Administration to make it mandatory for all ingredients in Australian sunscreens to be clearly visible on labels

We are constantly told to ‘slip, slop, slap’, but do Australians really know what’s in their sunscreen?

The answer is ‘no’. Last summer, hundreds of children and adults were ‘burned’ by the ingredients contained in certain sunscreens.

Even so, there seems to be little to no discussion regarding the impact concealed chemicals in common sunscreens can have on people’s skin and the environment.

Gold Coast-based sunscreen manufacturer Craig Jones would like the Therapeutic Goods Administration to make it mandatory for all ingredients in Australian sunscreens to be clearly visible on labels.

“At the moment, sunscreens do not have to show all of their ingredients - only the ‘active’ ingredients and ‘preservatives’ need to be on the labels. The majority of ingredients are hidden,” he said.

“This is a public health hazard at a time when so many people have allergies. The regulator of sunscreens recently reviewed sunscreen labels and on the advice of ‘stakeholders’ decided to keep the status quo.

“That means ingredients will continue to be hidden from the public. One can only guess what ‘stakeholders’ benefit by continuing to keep most ingredients secret.

“I am not questioning the safety or efficacy of any particular sunscreen, just the right for consumers to know what is in them. There are several Australian sunscreen manufacturers that voluntarily show their ingredients.”

Jones founded MooGoo Skin Care and has been in the industry for more than 12 years. He said he believed the TGA needed to be completely transparent with consumers and let them understand why not all ingredients are expected to be listed.

Each day, more Australians are diagnosed with the deadly skin disease melanoma. More than 13,941 people were diagnosed with melanoma and almost 2000 lives lost to it this year.

“There’s never been a more important time to really educate ourselves on the sunscreens we so heavily rely on,” said Jones.

We are an Australian company with an entire range of natural and gentle products that are made with effective ingredients and no gimmicks.

MooGoo came about when the head of our herd thought it was unusual that his mother was using a product made for cows for her skin condition. The "Udder Cream" being used in dairy farms was designed to help keep the skin on cow’s udders in prime condition for milking. Cow’s udders need to be soft and supple, not dry or cracked. However, the original Udder Cream his mother used was very thick to apply. So he set about adapting this cream for humans by making it lighter and non-greasy.

We have now expanded our range of skin care products to help with lots of different skin issues. However, we have kept the same philosophy about our products. That is making products full of healthy ingredients for children and adults, and use nothing we don’t feel is right for our own skin. Tired of products that tell you what they “don’t” use and not what they do? We are proud to show all our ingredients on our website, not just the pretty ones.

MooGoo is a cruelty free brand.

The products are made using natural food grade ingredients, and do not contain any synthetic chemical ingredients, such as Parabens, SLS, Paraffin - to name a few. The range is designed for babies and people with sensitive, easily irritated skin so the ingredients are good quality and non-irritating. Only making skin care which they are comfortable using on themselves or their loved ones.
