Tragic Boating Accident – Family Respond

Announcement posted by Thurnham Teece 12 Jan 2018

A Hamilton family, still in shock following the tragic death of their 17-year-old son in a boating accident, have spoken for the first time of their grief.

Isaac Lourie tragically died in a recreational ski boat accident on the Williams River near Raymond Terrace on Friday, January 5th.

The family said that Isaac loved all sports and had a passion for water sports, where he was a keen, surfer, skier and wakeboarder. Popular and much loved amongst a large group of friends, his loss is being felt deeply by many in the local community.

“Isaac was a loving and devoted son and brother as well a friend to so many. We are heartbroken by his loss but we take comfort that his short life was packed with plenty of adventures which have left us with many, many fond memories.

This was a tragic and unforeseeable accident.

At this extremely sad time we simply wish to be together with our family and friends as we grieve for our precious son and trust that the media will respect our wishes.”

No further statements or interviews will be provided and the family has made a specific request for privacy from the media in their grief, including at the service to celebrate the life of Isaac, which will be held in the coming weeks.
