Announcement posted by Candle Corporation 08 Aug 2003

Candle Corporation, a leading enterprise infrastructure management provider, today announced the expansion of its offerings for Linux environments by providing new Linux support for IBM WebSphere MQ management, as well as 64-bit platform support across its entire Linux management solution portfolio. Building on the debut of its Linux support in August 2000, Candle today offers a full portfolio of Linux enterprise management solutions.
"Our Linux management solutions empower organisations to migrate mission-critical applications to Linux environments as part of cost-saving mainframe server consolidation initiatives," said Teri Soken, vice president, Data Centre Management, Candle Corporation. "We are witnessing increasing demand from new and existing customers for Linux tuning, testing and management solutions as organisations focus on migrating to a common operating system to reduce cost and complexity."
Gartner, Inc. underscores the growth of Linux on the mainframe in John Phelps' February 25, 2003, report, "IBM Mainframe Futures: Better Than Many Believe." The report states, "Linux grew to account for at least 15 per cent of the net new MIPS shipped in 2001 and grew to more than 20 per cent of the new MIPS shipped in 2002." The report also states that most of the Linux MIPS shipped in 2002 were trials.
Candle strengthened its Linux offerings with the debut of OMEGAMON XE (Extended Edition) for Linux - an end-to-end solution for testing, tuning and managing the performance and availability of Linux on IBM eServer zSeries mainframes. Candle's expanding Linux solution suite underscores its commitment to supporting customers' enterprise Linux deployments.
"The groundswell of momentum surrounding Linux with IBM software continues to build as organisations focus on deploying the open source operating system to enhance business performance and reduce the cost of enterprise computing," said Scott Handy, director, Linux Software Solutions, IBM. "As organisations expand the scope of their Linux deployments, IBM and IBM partners, such as Candle, are providing customers with the solutions infrastructure to capitalise on the compelling benefits of using Linux."
