Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Provides International Recognition of Advanced Electronic Medical Record System Adoption
Beijing, China – January 22, 2018 InterSystems, a global leader in health information technology, today announced that Beijing United Family Healthcare has become the first Chinese private healthcare organization certified by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) to achieve Stage 6 of the Inpatient Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM).

Through its use of the InterSystems TrakCare® electronic medical record system (EMR), Beijing United Family Hospital, operated by Beijing United Family Healthcare, has now achieved both Joint Commission International (JCI) and HIMSS Inpatient EMRAM Stage 6 certification, among the world’s highest standards for hospitals.

HIMSS’s Inpatient EMRAM evaluates the breadth and depth of healthcare information systems adoption in hospitals. As one of the most authoritative global evaluation systems, it is used by many Chinese hospitals to assess their level of information technology (IT) maturity and adoption of international practices. HIMSS also goes beyond IT to consider healthcare outcomes – how well systems serve both patients and care providers.

InterSystems TrakCare supports consistent care delivery across UFH’s five hospitals, 12 medical centers, and satellite clinics with immediate access to patient data and better care coordination, said Dr. Jenny Shao, Director of Healthcare IT Systems at Beijing United Family Healthcare. “Doctors, nurses, and other authorized care team members can all see a complete electronic patient record, reducing risks associated with information gaps. TrakCare’s clinical and data analysis capabilities also provide clinical support, alerting carers about contraindicated medications, for example, to improve the quality of care.”

Quality of care at Beijing United Family Hospital has been further enhanced with closed loop medication administration, a key requirement of HIMSS Inpatient EMRAM Stage 6. “Using barcodes tracked by TrakCare we demonstrated the ‘5 rights’ of closed loop medication administration – right patient, right drug, right dose, right route, and right time – in our EMRAM Stage 6 assessment,” said Dr. Shao. “The HIMSS report stated that our electronic medication administration record is the best they have seen in China.”

John Daniels, Evaluation Panel Leader for HIMSS Analytics, said: “Beijing United Family Healthcare has a long history of applying information technology to support healthcare provision. By using a single EMR it has benefited from easy access to data, the ability to share patient information, and the integration of clinical and administrative systems.”

Zhongying Pan, President of Beijing United Family Healthcare, said: “Deployment of InterSystems’ state-of-the-art healthcare information system has significantly improved our management, streamlined our business processes, reinforced our security, and enhanced patient experience.”

“We congratulate Beijing United Family Healthcare on its successful certification by HIMSS,” said Luciano Brustia, Country Manager for Greater China at InterSystems. “As the organization’s EMR systems supplier, we are also proud to have reduced the risk and complexity of systems deployment by using the Chinese edition of TrakCare and leveraging our global experience.”

TrakCare is sold only outside of the United States.
