Media release: Tuesday 23 January 2018

Australia’s Festival of Hair is inviting hair professionals to enter their wonderland at Hair Expo Australia 2018 in Melbourne. The event is set to wow the professional hair industry with a stellar line-up of big brands, big names and big features for visitors to experience over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, 9-11 June.

Headlining the much-anticipated Hair Expo program are 2016 British Hairdresser of the Year, Angelo Seminara and US-based balayage expert, Candy Shaw.

Angelo will be presenting a creative seminar at Hair Expo where he will share his sources of inspiration and present a combination of clever cutting, artful dressing and innovative colouring techniques. Angelo will also be leading a day-long creative workshop where hairdressers can get hands-on with the legend himself.

"I am so thrilled and excited to come to Australia, I have been a few times and enjoy it immensely. The Australian audience of hairdressers are amongst the most passionate and I love the idea of sharing my passion with them and the opportunity to hopefully share something very, very exciting and innovative!” said Angelo about his forthcoming appearance at Hair Expo.

A leading industry educator, Candy Shaw is known as ‘The Balay Lama’® for her innovative Balayage techniques, which lead to more skilled stylists and vastly more profitable salons.

"Balayage changes lives. It's the biggest trend shift in the hairdressing industry since the flat-iron movement! I cannot wait to share the tips, tricks, tools and techniques I have developed over the past 35 years behind the chair with my new hair friends in Melbourne. It has been a career dream of mine to jump across the pond and share my Balayage education and Southern hospitality with my fellow hairdresser", said Candy.

Returning in 2018 is Hair Expo favourite Tabatha Coffey, who will lead small group sessions to help hairdressers focus on achieving their personal and professional goals. In a Hair Expo first, Tabatha will also be offering one-on-one business coaching sessions to help hairdressers work through any issues they may be facing in their business or career, and break through those barriers to achieve success.

Other world-class creative educators at Hair Expo 2018 include local legend Sharon Blain, MENSPIRE (UK), barber Mikey Denton (USA), the Pulp Riot team (USA), R+Co Co-Founder and Creative Director Howard McLaren (USA), Jaemyeong Jung, Jun Jung, Sujin Seo and Hee Lin Jung (Korea) supported by The Masters Institute of Creative Education, MATRIX Australia artists Kobi Bokshish, Stevie English and Paul Ricupito, the Kings Domain team, Jules Tognini, TONI&GUY, WAHL, and many more.

Business education will be led by savvy leaders like Julie Piantadosi; Faye Murray, Brodie-Lee Stubbins and Steve Callus; Lisa Conway, Kylie Lewis, Cherie Stokic, The AHC, Bernadette Beswick, and Megan Yabsley.

Designed so that hairdressers can attend multiple sessions for less, Hair Expo has introduced five excellent-value event passes that will mean education is more accessible than ever. More details on the passes will be available at the Hair Expo website.

Brands bringing their innovations to Hair Expo 2018 include MATRIX Australia, which is sponsoring the GenNext Gala in 2018, Professional Use (Mizutani, Balmain, Y.S. Park Professional, Janeke) Haircare Australia, Rogue Beauty (Pulp Riot, Oribe, R+Co), WAHL, Andis, Alterna Haircare, Biolage R.A.W. and many more.
