Australian Parents Urged to Control Junk Food and Encourage Outdoor Play

Announcement posted by My Cubby PTY Ltd 25 Jan 2018

The Australian Medical Association Queensland (AMAQ) chief Dr Bill Boyd is urging parents to get tough on unhealthy snacking saying children should follow guidelines of two snacks a day at 100 calories each. This means reducing high-calorie snacking and getting adequate exercise.  One in four of the state’s children are obese or overweight.

Dr Boyd said more people needed to be aware of the problems a poor diet and a lack of exercise can have on long-term health. “Doctors have been raising the alarm about this issue for decades but the message still isn't getting through to many people. Parents who allow children to overeat and gain a significant amount of weight are putting their health in jeopardy," he said. "Obesity causes heart disease, some cancers, type 2 diabetes, hypertension and musculoskeletal problems. That is not a legacy any parent should leave to their child,” he said

Dr Boyd says too many parents allow their children to overeat, fuelling the country’s obesity crisis. He said Australian parents needed to fall into line with the new dietary recommendations that have been launched in the UK and start protecting their kids rather than pandering to them.  "Australia is one of the most obese nations in the developed world. Doctors have been raising the alarm about this issue for decades but the message still isn’t getting through to many people. Parents who allow children to overeat and gain a significant amount of weight are putting their health in jeopardy,” he said.

Brisbane-based outdoor play specialist My Cubby is also pushing a similar message. The company is on a mission to get children outdoors. Their range of kids cubby houses will allow them to take a break from technology and get them outdoors with fun-filled healthy play activities. The New Year is a good time to start afresh, a wonderful chance to initiate a healthy practice.  The company believes outdoor play in the early years of life has a profound and lasting influence on a child’s health, wellbeing, and long-term development.

Their range of wooden cubbies will help fill plays needs of all children. These include Duplex, Forts, Triplex, Classic Cubby Houses, Adventurer and Childcare Cubbies among others. My Cubby can customise the playhouse according to the space available in the backyard and the child’s physical needs and abilities, like making it wheelchair accessible.

For those looking at these kids’ playhouse kits for their home or business My Cubby delivers nationwide. They have freight options depending on the delivery location in Australia. The company has installed over 1,000 cubby houses around Australia backed by their customer service promise.
