Underwater Walker Trades Cage for Shark Shield

Media Release - 2 February 2018

Shark Shield is pleased to announce that Rod Moore, underwater walker has chosen to put down his homemade, steel-mesh contraption and embrace the 21st century with the world’s only scientifically proven shark deterrent. On Wednesday, Mr Moore completed the six-hour walk under the Sydney Harbour using the Shark Shield FREEDOM7 model. This model, powered by Shark Shield technology is specifically designed for marine sports, including underwater walking.

Rod Moore says, “The Shark Shield team heard about my Sydney Harbour walk and reached out to support. Every time I do these walks I have a fear of sharks coming to say hello. Taking off the metal contraption from my back and replacing with a scientifically tested model was a relief. Now if someone asks me if I’m scared of sharks, the answer is no!”

Moore’s walk on Wednesday was to raise awareness for Kiwanis International service clubs, a charity who supports children through local service and fundraising. Mr Moore is no stranger to underwater walking, completing his first walk 30 years ago, supporting Newcastle’s intellectually handicapped, and earning a world record in the process.

Lindsay Lyon, CEO of Shark Shield says, “We’re proud to support water adventurers and when we heard about Rod’s upcoming walk we had to help out. The Shark Shield FREEDOM7’s lightweight design and wearable velcro pouch makes it comfortable to wear for hours at a time. It was great to hear that Rod felt safer using Shark Shield throughout the six-hour walk.”

“The Shark Shield team have been amazing and extremely helpful when lending their FREEDOM7 model. This was the longest walk I’ve done to date, with the Shark Shield I definitely felt more relaxed, while not harming any Sharks along the way. It gave me the peace of mind to focus on where I was going,” Rod adds.
