Ananda Marga calls for a Royal Commission on the Hilton Bombing

As there have been repeated attempts to link Ananda Marga to the Hilton Bombing, we address the Australian media with a formal statement.
At the outset, we once again express our heartfelt condolences to those who were injured or lost loved ones on that ill-fated day of 13 February 1978. We continue – as we have consistently done over the past forty years - to emphatically and unequivocally deny any connection or involvement between our organization or any followers of Ananda Marga and the tragic event at the Hilton.
Today the popular perception is that the original trial of Alister, Dunn and Anderson was about the Hilton Bombing, when that was not the case. Rather all three were framed on unrelated false charges, then eventually exonerated and paid compensation for their wrongful conviction. Years later, when Tim Anderson was acquitted on appeal, the appellate court issued a scathing denunciation of the prosecution. In the interest of full public disclosure, we ask: how much more is needed to convince the Australian media that they have been played?
Retired senior constable Terry Griffiths was just six metres from the blast and suffered extensive injuries. Following his diligent independent investigation over several years, Griffiths stated: "I'm suggesting there is enough evidence for any person who wishes to go into the matter honestly to believe that there may well be a cover-up". We draw your attention to Terry Griffith’s further reported statements on “A Current Affair” program aired on 9th February 2018.
We call on any person or organization to bring forward to the competent authorities any evidence that they may have regarding this matter.
The considerable resources wasted to date on the misdirected targeting of a small yoga and social service organization like Ananda Marga, could have gone into demanding a Royal Commission into the Hilton Hotel bombing. This is a call we wholeheartedly supported at the time and still do. Unfortunately the passage of over forty years makes it increasingly difficult to reveal the real perpetrators.
Ananda Marga continues with its mission of teaching meditation and yoga and providing humanitarian services in Australia and globally. We request media professionals to properly acknowledge this work in the spirit of fair and good journalism.
