Australian and New Zealand Organisations Missing Opportunities, Struggling to Become More Connected

Announcement posted by Boomi 13 Feb 2018

Vanson Bourne research for Dell Boomi indicates appetite for integration in the region, with an uptick in iPaaS strategies
Sydney, Australia – February 7, 2018 – The integration platform-as-a-service (iPaaS) market is expected to expand significantly over the next decade, however new research conducted by Vanson Bourne has revealed that half of Australian and New Zealand (A/NZ) organisations are struggling to become more connected.

According to Grand View Research, the global iPaaS market will reach US$2.71 billion by 2025, with Asia Pacific to experience the highest compound annual growth rate – 25 per cent – between 2017 and 2025.

Despite this adoption uptick, Vanson Bourne’s survey into ‘The Connected Business’, commissioned by Dell Boomi (Boomi), indicates that 91 per cent of IT decision-makers in A/NZ recognise the need to improve connectivity within their organisations, with 50 per cent claiming their organisations are having trouble doing so.

Furthermore, the vast majority (89 per cent) of respondents have faced drawbacks as a result of poor integration. The top three concerns flagged include unreliable applications (34 per cent), financial loss and efficiency downturns (33 per cent), and poor workflow efficiency (26 per cent). Of concern is that 59 per cent admit their organisations have missed opportunities as a result of poor integration, while 17 per cent believe they may have done so unknowingly.

“Australian and New Zealand-based organisations understand the importance of integration, however traditional strategies for connecting systems have been unable to deliver on the needs of today’s digital operations,” said Nicholas Lambrou, Managing Director A/NZ, Dell Boomi.

“The organisations we speak with have already made significant progress with their cloud transformations, and require greater versatility than on-premises, API-only-based integrations can provide. This is fueling the adoption of iPaaS, which aligns to the scalable, best-of-breed and low maintenance cloud-based environments through which modern businesses operate.”

In fact, 55 per cent of organisations in A/NZ have already completely adopted iPaaS, 34 per cent are in the process, and 9 per cent intend to do so within the next 12 months. Zero participants do not plan to adopt iPaaS, however two per cent are not aware of the solution.

“Use cases for iPaaS are very diverse due to its ability to mould to the unique requirements of organisations across a wide range of industries,” said Lambrou. “The most common reasons companies in our region are using or looking at implementing iPaaS is for its master data management capabilities for enhanced decision-making, and low-code design for ease of use.”

Presently, 89 per cent of A/NZ organisations are using master data management (MDM) to help them in the use and management of data. Increasing data accuracy and consistency (55 per cent), more effective data analysis (43 per cent), and increasing the usability and application of data (40 per cent) are among the top ways in which IT decision makers think MDM solutions could help their organisations.

Meanwhile, all respondents agreed that using a low-code solution to build applications is beneficial; ease of application maintenance (49 per cent), increased collaboration by developers (49 per cent), and accelerated time-to-market (33 per cent) round out the three highest-voted reasons.

“Through the correct approach to integration, organisations are able to create connected business to boost productivity, data accessibility and workflow processes in order to influence profitability within a more robust environment,” said Lambrou.
