Tsurumi Submersible Seawater Pumps Making Waves in the Pump Industry

Announcement posted by Pump Solutions Australasia 01 Mar 2018

Importer of Tsurumi Pumps in Australia reveals why Tsurumi submersible seawater pumps are the gold standard in the industry.
Perth, WA, 01 March 2018 - Tsurumi Pumps have been manufacturing pumps since they were established in 1924. In nearly a hundred years of pump manufacturing, they have arguably ascended to the top of the pump industry when it comes to manufacturing submersible pumps. One of their product lines for which there is no argument, however is their submersible seawater pumps.

Standard submersible pumps are made of stainless steel. This is good for sanitary uses, but they tend to corrode within six months when being used for seawater. Stainless steel has a surface coating of chromium oxide which is easily compromised during seawater marine applications.

When the coating is compromised by contact with marine life that causes an oxygen deficit on the surface, the pump becomes degraded and eventually fails. Consequently, stainless steel submersible pumps often have service lives as short as six months when used for seawater applications.

Tsurumi Pumps Solve the Problem

Tsurumi submersible seawater pumps are made of titanium and specially formulated resins. This allows the pumps to provide a long service life, more in line with that of a pump that is moving a less aggressive fluid.

All of the parts that come in contact with the water are made of titanium, which is impervious to seawater. The parts of the pump that don't contact the water are made of special resin that are formulated for each individual part.

If the pumps were made solely of titanium, they would be exceedingly expensive. Tsurumi’s solution to the problem was to introduce the resins to bring the costs of their pumps into line and create a more cost-effective solution for those who need to pump seawater on a regular basis.

Tsurumi submersible seawater pumps are used for three purposes: drainage, intake and circulation. They are lubricated by an oil that is made out of food-grade paraffin. Due to the oil being a food grade product, Tsurumi sea water pumps can be used in applications involving fish, such as fish farms, water tanks or fish preserves.

Tsurumi makes their submersible water pumps with discharge bore diameters ranging from 40 mm to 80mm. The smallest motor capacity is 0.25 kW and the highest is 3.7 kW. The strongest single phase pump is 0.75 kW. Tsurumi also makes automatic submersible seawater pumps.
