Nevermind model, who will be Australia's Next Top Lawyer?

Announcement posted by Australian accident helpline 13 Mar 2018

National compensation company launches new award for law students with a $5000 cash prize
Coined "Australia's Next Top Lawyer", the competition is aimed at Australian undergraduates studying law. Set aside is a guaranteed top prize of $5000 and three undisclosed runner-up prizes. To be in the running, students will need to submit a 3000-word essay on Australian legal history.

With the legal sector becoming more and more competitive as technology takes over, the No Win No Fee claims company has raised the bar in an effort to help the country's young talent.

Liam Millner, the founder and Managing Director of Australian Accident Helpline, says the lack of young people working in the legal sector is concerning.

“It is worrying that there could be a shortage of good lawyers in the future. An experienced lawyer can be the difference between life or death in some countries, the innocent ending up in jail, or big businesses walking over the little guys”.

Practices all over the world are embracing technology and downsizing their workforce. Inevitably this will leave only the most experienced lawyers employed within the legal sector
and decrease opportunities for juniors to enter the profession.

Millner says, “in the short term, practices will become more profitable, but it's simply not sustainable in the long run.”

Australian Accident Helpline promotes itself as an investor in young people and a champion for victims of no-fault accidents they believe this competition will provide an opportunity for undergraduates to set themselves apart from future colleagues early on.

All entries will be judged by Australian Accident Helpline's panel of senior lawyers, and the results of the competition will be announced in October 2018.

So who will be Australia's Next Top Lawyer and will the profit-hungry companies care.

This is a wonderful initiative that will encourage students to challenge themselves and also highlight the hurdles they may face in the future. The winning applicant is encouraged to use the $5000 cash prize to fund further studies.
