24-Hour Fitness Challenge to Support The Black Dog Institute

Announcement posted by Fitness Boxx Mona Vale 14 Mar 2018

Local, family-owned fitness business is raising funds to tackle mental health in conjunction with World Health Day
The team at Fitness Boxx Mona Vale are helping to reduce the impact of depression by embarking on a 24-Hour Fitness Challenge on April 6/7th to raise awareness and funds for the BlackDog Institute.
One in five Australians are affected by mental illness every year, with one of the most common of these being depression. It touches people of all ages and from all walks of life, and places an enormous burden on individuals, families, workplaces and the health system.
According to owners Scott Flint and Ryan Mountford, the Black Dog Institute has a special significance. We have been working to improve the health of The Northern Beaches Community for over a decade, but what many people overlook on their health and fitness journey is the mental health aspect. It’s well known that regular exercise and good nutrition habits form the basis of good physical health, but our high-stress lifestyles are leading to an increasingly large number of people suffering depression and anxiety on top of poor physical health. At Fitness Boxx, we aim to support our clients through optimal nutrition and fitness coaching, yet we strongly recognise the need for improving awareness and access to support services such as The Black Dog Institute to help with the psychological aspects of health.
The Fitness Boxx 24-Hour Challenge is being held at Fitness Boxx Mona Vale, Level 2, The Gateway Building. It commences at 8am on April 6th and concludes at 8am April 7th, coinciding with World Health Day. Teams of 2-12 people will complete 24 workouts in 24 hours, in a true test of mental and physical fortitude.
Fitness Boxx aims to raise $10,000 to assist the Black Dog Institute.
The Black Dog Institute is dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by depression and bipolar disorder through high quality research, clinical expertise and education programs.
