Australians to recycle their way to rewards with new partnership between Velocity Frequent Flyer and Envirobank

SYDNEY: 20 March, 2018: Velocity Frequent Flyer, the award-winning loyalty program of Virgin Australia, has partnered with Australian recycling innovator, Envirobank Recycling, to launch a ‘Recycle for Rewards’ program – enabling Australians to turn their recycling into holidays, flights and more when they recycle at Envirobank-operated collection points.

From today, Velocity members can earn Velocity Points every time they recycle drink containers at any Envirobank-operated collection points[1], by signing up to Envirobank’s Crunch program and linking their Velocity membership before recycling. For every eligible drink container that is recycled, members will earn 15 Envirobank Crunch credits, which can then be transferred into five Velocity Points.

Velocity Frequent Flyer Chief Commercial Officer Sterling Brain said: “Velocity and the wider Virgin Australia Group is passionate about doing our bit to reduce our carbon footprint. This partnership with Envirobank means our members can also get involved by turning their recycling into Velocity Points, which they can then use on a holiday.

“Envirobank is doing some incredible work in encouraging Australians to recycle and rewarding that behaviour, and we’re delighted to partner with them to give our Velocity members another way of earning Points,” Mr Brain said.

Envirobank Recycling collection points are available in metropolitan and regional areas, as well as pop-up mobile collection sites.

Narelle Anderson, founder and managing director or Envirobank Recycling, said: “High-volume, automated depots are already operational in Darwin and Revesby, with West Gosford and Newcastle opening in coming weeks.

“Working with Velocity to introduce a program that pays recyclers for the good they do in a ‘currency’ that matters to them personally – such as flights and holidays – is a huge incentive for more Australians to participate in Container Deposit Schemes.

With an estimated 3.4 billion eligible containers in NSW alone, there are literally billions of Frequent Flyer Points up for grabs for savvy recyclers," Ms Anderson said.

Mobile collection sites also operate at selected Surf Life Saving Clubs up and down the NSW coast. Available at scheduled times on allocated dates, a full list of locations and collection days for Velocity members is available at https://www.envirobank.com.au/who-we-are/mobile-collections/.

Envirobank’s Crunch ‘Recycle for Rewards’ program is available in New South Wales and the Northern Territory. Other states, such as Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia, will follow as additional Container Deposit Schemes are rolled out over coming months.

[2] Most 150ml to three litre beverage containers are eligible for a 10-cent refund provided they are made from glass, plastic, aluminium, steel or liquid paperboard. Containers should be empty, uncrushed, unbroken, and have the original label intact. The eligibility of beverage containers generally aligns with containers that are eligible under the SA or NT schemes. Many will therefore have the SA or NT scheme refund marking if they are currently sold in those markets. Source: http://returnandearn.org.au/faq
