Unisys hires 25-year industry veteran to expand its initiatives in support of government clients

Announcement posted by Unisys 04 Mar 2004

Former Big Five senior partner and EDS regional executive, Dr Michael Lisle-Williams, has joined Unisys as Managing Partner, Public Sector. The appointment will further strengthen the company's efforts in delivering technology-based services and solutions to government.
"Michael brings to Unisys enormous talent in strategic planning and major project management and delivery, " said Andrew Barkla, Vice President and General Manager, Unisys Asia Pacific. "He has consulted to more than a hundred government departments and agencies on issues such as service improvement and technology-enabled change. With this strategic hire, Unisys will aggressively expand its brand awareness and portfolio within the public sector.
Based in Melbourne, Dr Lisle-Williams will be responsible for developing and leading the Unisys Public Sector Practice in Australia and New Zealand. He will expand the existing teams of experts based in Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Wellington and Sydney, while developing relationships with key accounts and partners. The role will also see him manage the delivery and implementation of a broad range of services and projects.
"Unisys assists government in improving the delivery of services to the community," said Dr Lisle-Williams. "This includes working with government departments to transfer Unisys worldwide knowledge and skills to the public sector workforce. And one advantage of doing this is that governments can lead the way in demonstrating their commitment to re-skilling and re-training public sector employees - both young and old - especially at a time when many services jobs are moving offshore."
"Unisys has a strong reputation in the public sector, one built mainly on its technology heritage," continued Dr Lisle-Williams. "But Unisys now delivers expertise in services and consulting to government, overcoming the challenges - in education, security, human services, revenue management and public safety - that governments face in the 21st century."
Dr Lisle-Williams has over 25 years' experience in both private and public sectors, including 12 years as a management consulting partner in Big Five firms. He joins Unisys from EDS, where he was Vice President, Government for the Asia Pacific region. In this role he was responsible for EDS' strategic engagement with government clients - from consulting to externally managed services.
Prior to this, Dr Lisle-Williams was a partner at Arthur Young and then Deloitte Consulting where he provided management consulting and led technology projects in the Asia Pacific region, with a particular emphasis on implementing solutions for Australian government-led initiatives.
Dr Lisle-Williams also worked for the Western Australian Government in the 1980s as chief of staff to the then Deputy Premier of Western Australia who he was responsible for establishing Australia's first technology park and Western Australia's Technology Development Authority, as well as Australia's first Department of Computing and Information Technology.
Dr Lisle-Williams holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education from the University of Western Australia. He also earned a Master & Doctorate of Philosophy and Master of Arts from the University of Oxford in England, where he was awarded the Lord Heyworth Prize Research Fellowship.
