The 2018 Digital Utility Awards

A2K Technologies in conjunction with SA Power Networks took out the 2018 Digital Utility Award for Best Use of New Technology with the A2K creation of a Machine Learning Algorithm to Convert and Migrate CAD Drawings. The winners of The Digital Utility Awards 2018 were presented on 19 April 2018 at a gala dinner and awards ceremony held in Melbourne.

The Awards recognise the utility industry’s greatest achievements in the digitisation of utility networks, processes and practices across Australia. In total, four awards were handed out.

Machine Learning Algorithm (MLA), similar to Face Recognition System, was developed to recognise the Drawings, their Data and Characteristics to deliver an Autodesk certified drawing which could be easily transferred, edited and saved.

To gain this award, SA Power Networks has worked and consulted with A2K Technologies technical staff to develop a solution to move to one system efficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD. This cooperation resulted in:

·       A2K’s custom build Machine Learning Algorithm saved SA Power Networks and estimated
$1 million in labour costs and thousands of man hours Consolidation of systems and software assets and standardisation on Autodesk Software products,

·       Reduction of manual, time consuming tasks that are high risk, high level effort through automation,

·       Migration, conversion and replacement of data and files,

·       Future capabilities have enabled standardisation and optimisation across its business groups and networks.

The project was a huge showcase of two businesses collaborating with each other. According to A2K’s Senior Solutions Consultant JC Davies, “the project has been identified as the first successful project of its kind in Australia and possibly globally.”

Adrian Jeremiah, IT Project Manager SA Power Networks commented that the project consisted of, “(a) 12-month roadmap leveraging subject matter expertise across five different cities, four time zones and two continents, and during the project, over 85 project stakeholder meetings were held, 18 technical workshops and 80 periodic reports were delivered.”

“A2K made what seemed like a very complicated process into a streamlined implementation, on time and on budget.”
