MG and Brock: Two Motorsport Legends unite to contest Australian Production Car Championship

Announcement posted by MG Motor Australia 10 May 2018

10th May, 2018: In 2018, two legendary motorsport names are teaming up to chase glory on Australian racetracks.

Brock Race Engineering and MG Motor Australia have joined forces to create MG Motorsport Australia and contest the full 2018 Australian Production Car championship season with the race-proven MG6 PLUS sports sedan in the Production E class.

Brock Race Engineering team owner James Brock, continues the racing legacy started by his father, Australia’s greatest touring car driver, Peter Brock. James will lead the MG Motorsport Australia team both off the track and behind the wheel as one of the drivers.

MG Motor Australia’s Senior Manager for Marketing and Communications Danny Lenartic said “We are extremely proud to partner with the highly regarded Brock Race Engineering operation to create MG Motorsport Australia, especially with James Brock leading the charge, a man with a peerless motor racing pedigree.”

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for MG Motor to showcase the capabilities of the MG6 PLUS, and further sign of our commitment to re-establishing the proud and passionate MG brand with new generations of Australians.”

Brock Race Engineering owner and MG Motorsport Australia Team Principal James Brock is looking forward to putting the race-proven MG6 PLUS to the test in Australia’s production car motorsport category.

“Brock Race Engineering is thrilled to be partnering with MG Motor Australia,” said Brock. “The MG6 Plus delivers a winning combination of dynamism, aero efficiency and performance to make it a highly competitive package from day one.”

Brock is no stranger to competing at the highest levels of Australian motorsport. He not only grew up around racetracks, he been a regular competitor in some of Australia’s best-known racing categories since the early 2000s, even taking on his famous father Peter in the 2003 Bathurst 24 Hour.

Equally, motorsport has been in MG Motor’s DNA since the marque was founded in the 1920s. The nine decades since have brought many laurels, including class wins in the Le Mans 24hr, and outright victories in the iconic Mille Miglia. More recently, MG Motor achieved considerable success in the British Touring Car Championship in the mid-2000s and 2010s, winning the 2014 Manufacturers’ Championship with an MG6 sports sedan.

MG Motorsport will take part in the full Australian Production Car championship season, including:

Round 1: 11-13 May, Sandown
Round 2: 27-29 July, Queensland Raceway
