Truedek came about from such a need. As custom rollformers, the company was often approached for ways to improve on existing products or trialing new ones to offer alternatives to what has been available in the past. In 2004, the Truedek panel was born from engineers at OneSteel Reinforcing wanting to design a product for the construction Industry that went way beyond conventional thinking and offered a range of benefits that far exceeded the products that had existed on the market up till then.

The objective was to manufacture a light-weight panel that could span over seven metres and eliminate the need for most of the costly and intrusive propping that was a major obstacle on many building sites. The added benefit was that the incredible strength inherent in the trapezoid design of the four rollformed profiles that make up the panels, enabled much of the secondary reinforcing steel to be eliminated, resulting in further savings.    

There is also no waste or onsite cutting as Truedek Steel Decking is tailor-made to suit each job. Each panel is manufactured with a pre-camber, to finish flat under the weight of the wet concrete and becomes part of the working platform as it is laid. There are four heights available (90, 110, 140 & 160mm) to suit different slab requirements, so it is very versatile.

There is an old expression attributed to King Solomon centuries ago that says, ‘There is nothing new under the sun’. The saying is commonly used to mean nothing new when referring to major breakthroughs in technology suggesting that most of the big world-changing ideas have already been invented and anything new is just a variation on what has already been. However, the original meaning referred more to human nature suggesting that often things go in cycles and there is nothing really new on the earth in the way people act and think through the generations.

If it were literal, if people were not challenged to think outside the box and just continued doing what generations before them had done - our world, the things we do, the buildings we live in would still be much the same as in Solomon’s day, which is clearly – and thankfully not the case.                                                                                                                                            

We live in a world that people only 200 years ago would not believe could ever exist. Modern health, hygiene, transportation, communication, travel, and the variety of foods we eat and all the inventions and innovations we take for granted as basic tenets of life would not be available if people had been comfortable with the status quo and not wanting to make changes and improvements.
