Afford Celebrates 65 Years of Support for People with Disability

Announcement posted by Crema PR 13 Jun 2018

SYDNEY, 13 June 2018 - This year marks a major milestone for leading disability service organisation, the Australian Foundation for Disability (Afford), as it celebrates 65 years supporting people to reach their personal life and work goals through meaningful and fulfilling activities and programs.

Afford has experienced significant growth across Sydney. The organisation has increased the number of person-centred services to support people with disability and their families and carers through the NDIS.

Celebrating 65 years, Afford is considered one of the leading disability services in Sydney and has initiated many industry-first programs that are tailored to offer clients more choice and independence to live life the way they want.

Just last year, Afford transitioned thousands of clients to the new NDIS and established a specialised NDIS Support Coordination service to provide expert advice for Afford clients and their families.

In 2017, Afford also established an Allied Health Services Team to work with individuals to determine the supports that they need and connect them with specialists for skills and personal development.

Steven Herald, Afford CEO, says that Afford is committed to partnering with individuals and families to help them receive the best supports through their NDIS Plan.

"The new NDIS is all about choice and individual supports so at Afford, we want to make sure we understand everyone's unique qualities to help them achieve all that they want out of life," said Mr Herald.

"In recent years we have established Afford Getaways to provide opportunities for clients to take a holiday supported by qualified Afford staff, as well as the industry's first healthy lifestyles program, Club Afford, which has a focus on fitness, fun and healthy living."

"We've had a wonderful responses to both initiatives and offering Club Afford activities outside the traditional service hours means clients have greater choice to take part in programs when it suits them."

Afford is a leading not-for-profit disability organisation that supports people living with disability across Sydney.

It is one of Australia's longest serving not-for-profit disability organisations and continuously goes beyond traditional service offerings to deliver new life experiences, work opportunities and lifelong friendships.

Afford is a registered charity and has been operating in NSW for 65 years, providing a range of disability supports to thousands of people across Sydney every day.
