Adore Christmas Carols? Celebrate Christmas in July with the Choristers from St Andrew's Cathedral Choir of Boys and Men

Announcement posted by St Andrew's Cathedral Choir of Boys and Men 27 Jun 2018

The Choristers are warming up for a wonderful celebration of all things Christmas next month.

This world-famous choir of boys and men has been bringing joyful music to Sydneysiders and visitors alike at special events, regular weekly services and peaceful evensongs since 1819.

Christmas is always a busy time, with candlelight carols always very popular. With the winter weather providing a more appropriate setting for some of the best loved carols, our Christmas in July on Saturday 28 July 2018 will be a lovely family affair, and a real treat for those who wish that the joy and music of Christmas could be experienced throughout the year!

$80 per person ($55 Concession)

St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney Square  Corner Bathurst and George Streets, Sydney

Starting at 6pm with a concert of seasonal music and a glass of mulled wine, guests will experience soaring descants and glorious anthems in Australia’s oldest Cathedral – the Blacket-designed Cathedral Church of St Andrew.

Then, moving to the Heath Centre in the adjacent St Andrew’s Cathedral School, a delicious 3-course Christmas dinner with all the trimmings will be enjoyed, Festive Trivia will be played, and the choristers will return to sing more carols – requests taken – to accompany dessert.

From Silent Night to a Silent Auction this will be a memorable evening - one highlight being the opportunity to bid on the choristers performing a private concert for an event or at a workplace.

There will even be delightful handcrafted “chorister” ornaments, delicious gingerbread angels and CDs to purchase on the evening.

“We spend each Christmas sweltering in our Cassocks with sweat dripping into our eyes”, said the Cathedral’s Director of Music, Ross Cobb.

“I am looking forward to singing some our favourite carols – such as In the Bleak Midwinter – actually in midwinter for a change!

I am delighted that our Choir families are hosting this beautiful Christmas in July event – one that we hope will become an annual tradition,” said Mr Cobb.

All funds raised will go towards the choristers’ upcoming Northern Hemisphere tour, marking the Choir’s 200th Anniversary in 2019, enabling the choir to accept invitations to sing in some of Europe's most amazing Religious buildings. For some of these young choristers, this will be their first time overseas!
