Energy Minister to speak at premier policy event for small business

Announcement posted by COSBOA 09 Jul 2018

One of the key challenges small businesses face in Australia is the cost of energy. The Government’s announcement of the National Energy Guarantee, a two-part plan resulting from the recommendation of the independent Energy Security Board earlier this year, sees reliable energy and lower emissions making electricity more affordable - but how and when will it make a difference?

The Hon. Josh Frydenberg, MP, Minister for the Environment and Energy, will join the Vodafone National Small Business Summit 2018 hosted by the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA), to present a session entitled ‘Powering the Economy’ speaking to business leaders on energy and environmental factors impacting small businesses and in particular how the National Energy Guarantee will power change.

Small business advocate, Peter Strong, CEO, COSBOA commented on the value of addressing energy at the Summit.

“Energy and environment costs are such a prominent concern for so many small business owners, it’s a worry I hear about all the time. To be able to address it at this year’s Summit and to hear first-hand from Mr Frydenberg is a great opportunity.

“Small businesses are suffering from the cost of energy. We need renewable energy, but for the foreseeable future we also need traditional energy sources and nuclear to relieve strains on the grid, making energy reliable and affordable.

“The National Energy Guarantee is one step towards addressing the energy issues faced by Australia’s business owners, however, it comes down to the individual state governments to guarantee a capped price for a 12 month period and incorporate innovative renewable and gas-powered options into the grid. I encourage small business leaders to join us at the Summit to debate this issue and ask the hard questions of the Government,” said Mr Strong.

Energy and its costs for small businesses across Australia will be a key issue discussed at the Summit, which is the pinnacle gathering of the year driving policy debate and discussion, with a focus on supporting the future of more than 2 million Australian small businesses.

The Vodafone National Small Business Summit, 30-31 August, Swissôtel Sydney, is Australia’s premier policy event for the small business community.
