Premier event attracts young talent

Emerging and established talent within the hair, makeup and body art world will be vying for Top Artist at the Perth Hair and Makeup Artist Awards (PHMUAA) early next month.

The Perth Hair and Makeup Artist Awards, to be held on August 5 at Ascot Racecourse, Perth, is a groundbreaking event that pushes the boundaries with jaw-dropping results - delivering an extravaganza of creative style and talent. The PHMUAA is the only one of its kind in Western Australia to celebrate the exquisite creativity and skill of artists who create their looks on beautiful emerging runway models, inspired by the garments from talented Perth Fashion Designers and Fashion Design Students.

The dynamic program includes live demonstrations from local, interstate and international Hair and Makeup Artists. As well as photographic competitions featuring creative hair and makeup, macro lip art and the student creative makeup plus a cut crease pro makeup video category. The runway shows are set to show off the Body Art, Arabian Makeup, Glamour Bridal and the Runway Avant Garde category. With the grand finale being a Perth debut – The Four Elements of Earth, an extravagant European inspired Hair Show produced and designed by Perth-based, international award-winning creative hair stylist Fabien Maillot, with Sandy Tau as the lead makeup artist.

“The PHMUA Awards provides a powerful platform for the most aspiring Hair Stylists, Makeup Artist and Body Painters around Australia, through which they can demonstrate their amazing talent to the public in an entertaining and inspiring format” said event coordinator, Shelley Meyer.

Four internationally renowned artists will be judging including:

Sean Maloney – the UK’s hottest celebrity makeup artist. Sean is no stranger to the world of celebrities: Khloe Kardashian has worn his line of SM Eyelashes, he has worked as ’the' makeup artist designer on a number of feature films - the most recent ‘Made in the 80s’ is due out 2019, music videos, cover shoots, London Fashion Week and worked with Lily Allen, Jessie J, Amy Childs to name a few and collaborated with YSL, Mac Cosmetics, Charlotte Tilbury, and Becca Cosmetics. (not sure he has collaborated? I know he loves these brands)

Hair and makeup Artist Charlotte Ravet has worked with: singer, Robbie Williams, the Glee cast, Simon Baker, Stephanie Claire Smith, Paris Fashion Week, Prada and MiuMiu private runway and launch events. 

Multi award-winning bridal hair and makeup specialist Martha Mok has a large Sydney based clientele, but also travels internationally to work with brides in Japan, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, New Zealand, Paris and London.

Debra Kelly is a multi talented makeup artist and visual artist and an expert on everything airbrush. With vast experience in makeup, creative direction and design, Debra trained in Los Angeles, New York, Canada and Melbourne with elite artists such as Roshar, Beau Nelson, Rae Morris and Kevin James Bennett. 

Perth’s Mack Reid, Channel Ten’s Bachelorette contestant who vied for Sophie Monk’s heart on the 2017 reality show, and lost, will be hosting the event along with media presenter, graphic artist and sought after street artist, Hans Bruechle.

Eddie Dos Santos, former mix94.5fm producer and a prominent figure in the Australian fashion world, having worked nationally and internationally with globally recognised brands, is consultant and logistics manager for the event.

VIP makeovers, expo, master classes and fantastic prizes and giveaways complete the program.
