australian anthill has defied the odds against start-up magazines by celebrating its first anniversary this month. Founder and editor, James Tuckerman, said it was unusual for an independent magazine to last one year.
Magazines have come and gone during the past year but australian anthill has more than doubled its circulation, Tuckerman said. Most independent magazines dont make it past
their first edition.
australian anthill has been successful because we are filling a gap between big business magazines, which focus on the top 500, and small business magazines, which focus on micro and small business owners. australian anthill was developed for fast-growth
businesses companies with genuine global potential.
Australia is apparently an innovative nation, but we are rarely able to commercially develop our technologies, or ideas, to a point where they become truly global brands. australian anthill hopes to change this trend by bringing together the three groups vital to new business development the entrepreneurs, the investors and the service providers.
An entrepreneur himself, Tuckerman started australian anthill at the age of 27 on a budget of $28,000 from a spare room at his home. One year later, the business has a turnover close to half a million Australian dollars.
Were definitely one of the fastest growing business titles in Australia and were looking at other channels for communicating to and supporting Australias entrepreneurs, he said.
Tuckerman is planning the inaugural australian anthill fair in 2005 designed to link emerging business with capital investors.
Australia needed an initiative like australian anthill to educate and inspire entrepreneurs to commercialise their inventions. We also bring investors and service providers into the equation. These groups provide the capital and skills to help Australian businesses go to the
next level. In this way, we are bringing ideas, capital and skills together.
We want to change Australias attitude to entrepreneurs by showcasing the high levels of innovation that exist in this country and by encouraging our leaders to think big.
