CROSSROADS CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

Announcement posted by Central Coast Conservatorium 30 Aug 2018

The finest chamber music festival between Townsville and Sydney

Celebrating the String Quartet

Greenway Chapel, 460 Avoca Drive, Green Point

Saturday & Sunday 8 & 9 September

The Central Coast Crossroads Music Festival is a friendly, unique event presenting four inspiring concerts over two days to celebrate the String Quartet.

The Festival will present a spring extravaganza for classical music lovers. Presented at the Greenway Chapel, a sub-tropical forest setting where a passing cockatoo has been known to contribute some dubious audience participation.

Now in its ninth year, the event promises the finest chamber music festival between Townsville and Sydney.

“Created especially for this Festival, I am proud to have inspired the formation of the Central Coast based Quartet, Dan Russel’s Phoenix Collective String Quartet”, says Charmian Gadd Artistic Director, Crossroads Festival of Chamber Music.

Saturday’s concert 2 will be previewed by Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s trumpeter, Paul Goodchild at 2.30pm. Paul will play a new piece in honor of his father Cliff Goodchild. A tuba player, Cliff grew up in St Joseph’s Home for the boys at Mary McKillop’s Convent at Kincumber. Cliff eventually became a member of Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

In keeping with Charmian’s philosophy of musicians of all ages playing, she and 16-year-old Sebastien Hibbard, a recipient of the Central Coast’s Concerto Competition and a Sydney Conservatorium Rising Star will perform in Concert 3 one of the most sacred pieces of the chamber music repertoire – the slow movement of the Shubert two cello quartet.

Two established professional Quartets will also join the Festival. The Acacia Quartet and the Caro Quartet.

Formed by members of the Opera Australia Orchestra, by sheer coincidence two members of the Caro Quartet are children of Sydney’s legendary Suzuki teachers, Yasuki Nakamura, violin and Takao Mizushima cello.

Experience the finest chamber musicians celebrating the String Quartet on the Central Coast performing in various combinations exclusively in the beautiful semi-tropical surroundings of the Greenway Chapel with a fantastic line-up of Artists.

The Crossroads Chamber of Music Festival is presented under the guidance of Charmian Gadd.  Artistic design by Francesca Bell.

Supported by the Central Coast Conservatorium of Music with funding from the Department of Education under the Regional Conservatorium Grants Program.
